Re: Improved Class System in Apex Legends for Season 16

So Happy New Year everyone!

As you can tell this concept has grown throughout 2022 and there is now no need to update this concept any further as a very similar version has recently been leaked to be coming next season (Season 16)

I first want to say that I don't agree with leaks. I do agree with the hype and build-up it brings to the community however I do feel very sorry for the developers who want to suprise us with features that inevitably get leaked anyways.

With that being said, I also want to say thank you to everyone who helped spread my concept. I am not taking full responsibility for the class update as I know there were a lot of similar concepts as well but undoubtedly the development team must have taken a few ideas when considering this rework from my post.

I have been consistent about wanting the class system to actually mean something and I can guarantee this new system is going to be very beneficial for the game.

Here is a summary of the changes that are presumed to come (may change as it is a leak):

• Gibraltar and Newcastle moved to support class (now consisting of Gibraltar, Lifeline, Loba and Newcastle)

• Defense class renamed to Control (now consisting of Caustic, Wattson, Rampart and Catalyst)

• Offense class renamed to Assault (now consisting of Bangalore, Revenant, Fuse, Ash, Mad Maggie and Ballistic - a presumed new character coming in S17)

• New Skirmisher class consists of Pathfinder, Wraith, Mirage, Octane, Horizon and Valkyrie

• Each class is presumed to have class passives like how recon characters have the survey beacon passive

In summary, I really hope these changes do happen next seaosn as they reflect the common roles in the game better than the current system we have. With the classes now being visually sepereated similar to Overwatch in their distinct groups it will also allow for players to subconsciously think whether playing a defense character whilst the team already has one is a good idea, for example.

Let me know what you guys think about these changes

Nice one, it seems like you helped to inspire this concept and it is a very good change. All the class distinctions & abilities make sense. When I look at the new default class names that the devs have just implemented, in particular the way they are displayed on the character selection screen UI, I can't help wondering if maybe a couple of the class labels should be re-named (or rather slightly re-worded).. 'Skirmisher' could become simply 'Skirmish' class and 'Controller' could be named just 'Control'.

It would give the 5 classes displayed more concise/consistent names.. Assault/Skirmish/Recon/Support/Control..

I know this is a bit of a nit picky minor point, it just feels like there is something slightly inconsistent about the current in-game labels for each class, like you wouldn't call 'assault' class 'assaulters' or 'support' class 'supporters' but they have labelled skirmish & control classes as skirmishers & controllers (I know there is likely some kind of grammatical reason as to why they have opted to call them that, it just looks a little inconsistent at first glance).
