Day 3: XBOX layout on receivers instead of PS

I've been playing the EA Play trial for Madden 24 (using the EA launcher) on PC with a Playstation 4 controller, connected through USB.

Everything in game shows the correct Playstation button layout meaning the menus, playcalling and substitutions in game, even the buttons on top of receivers in OFFLINE modes EXCEPT when I play ONLINE H2H or House Rules. For some reason, an online mode makes the button layout on top of the receivers change to the XBOX configuration.

Is there a way for the application or the EA app to properly recognize the Playstation button configuration for all modes of the game?

I've tried adding the EA launcher and Madden client to Steam, tinkering with their controller settings, and launching it in Steam's Big Picture mode but nothing helps.

My trial has now expired and I don't see the point in buying the full game when the PC client is clearly lacking the proper technical support.
