Re: In-game camera causing random crashing

@AkennArt

Move the whole Sims 4 folder to the desktop, or rename it. A new Sims 4 folder will be created when. you launch the game free of all of your existing user data, do not move any of your existing data into the new folder. Repeat all those steps you described above, minus adding any Mods in - does it still crash?

    Thanks for starting a new thread!  And apologies if I misplaced my post.

    I did as you suggested and it didn't crash! 🙂  Does this mean I would have to start a new save all over again and lose my previous progress?  Or can I just move all the contents of my Sims 4 folder into this newly created one?

    Also, a quick question:  Does placing objects off lot (using TOOL mod) cause this type of issue?

    It may be outdated Mods, or an issue with another file in the Sims 4 folder. No, absolutely do not just move all the contents from your old Sims 4 folder into the new one, you need to figure out the cause. Start by moving over one save and see if it still works ok, then gradually test all your saves. Lastly, update and test your Mods. There is a stickied thread in this forum which explains how to use Mods properly and minimise corruption and game issues https://answers.ea.com/t5/Game-and-Mod-CC-Issues/FAQ-How-to-use-Mods-CC/td-p/8781409

    Moved your thread to the Game and Mods forum for better help 🙂

    Okay, so I got started testing, and I moved only my current save file into the new "saves" folder in the newly generated Sims 4 folder.  The name of the save that generated has the same naming convention as my own current save, so I just changed the last digit of the new save.  When I loaded the game, only my current save showed up when clicking Load Game.  I moved nothing else--no mods, no CC, not even my Tray folder.  I went ahead to the 40x30 penthouse in the Fashion District of San Myshuno, did the twirling and spinning with the in game camera, and although it lasted a bit longer, it ultimately crashed.

    Next I removed my current save, left the new save (entered back its original number), and copied the contents of my Mods folder into the new Sims 4 Mods folder.  Well, it never loaded up to the Main Menu.  The plumbbob disappeared after a while on the loading screen and it just froze.  The entire application froze, so I had to Force Quit (this has happened before when I generated a new Sims 4 folder).

    Then I moved back my current save to the newly generated Sims 4 Folder i nits "saves" folder, removed the newly generated save (since they have the same naming convention I did not want one to overwrite the other), added Srsly's Blank Save (just to have another save file to test) to the new Sims 4 folder, as well as kept my Mods contents in the new Mods folder that I transferred in my previous step above.  Same thing happened, the game never loaded even to the Main Menu screen.  It completely froze so long that my screen saver came up.

    Next, with the newly generated Sims 4 Folder with no Mods/cc plus the new save file it generated, I moved all of those contents to a separate folder for testing, and moved all of the contents of my previous Sims 4 Folder back into the newly generated Sims 4 folder (including my Mods folder), plus those couple extra save files (but NOT the newly generated one though because it has the same naming convention for some reason as my current save file).  The game loaded. I opened the Srsly's Blank Save to test, went to the 40x30 penthouse lot in the Fashion District of San Myshuno, did the twirling for a while, and no crashing.  I exited out of that entire save, went to my current save, went to another household's home in Del Sol Valley, twirled the camera, no crashing.  Left that household (still in my current save), went to the penthouse in San Myshuno that I keep having trouble with, and before even loading up the lot just now, it crashed.

    In conclusion, with the newly generated Sims 4 Folder, new save file, and no mods/cc, I could open the game, go to the the penthouse lot, twirl the camera, and there was no issue with crashing.  However, once I added my own mods content to the newly generated Mods folder in the newly generated Sims 4 Folder, my game would not even load up to the Main Menu.  When I removed all the newly generated content in the newly generated Sims 4 Folder and replaced it with the contents of my previous Sims 4 Folder (plus a few extra save files), the game loaded.  In a new blank save file, the penthouse lot loaded and did not crash.  In my own current save file, another lot with a household in it loaded, and did not crash.  But that same 40x30 penthouse in the Fashion District of San Myshuno in my current save file either loaded then crashed upon twirling the camera, or like it did just right now, crashed the game before even loading up the lot.

    Some questions I have:  ⚽ why would my game not even load to the Main Menu screen when I had my mods/cc moved over to the new Mods folder in the newly generated Sims 4 Folder and nothing else?  Is there another file in the Sims 4 folder that needs to be present in order to load my mods?  🏈 Does placing objects (decorative and functional) off lot using TOOL mod cause crashing in a save file?

    Hi @AkennArt Outdated mods, Sims 3 package files, wrongly installed mods, and various other mod-related issues can stop the game from loading. For this, you can start by looking at the reports in the Broken/Updated Mods thread. If that doesn't solve your problem, you may need to do a 50-50 on your mods. The batch testing for this is a good opportunity to redownload complex mods and check their installation and conflict notes.

    Lot crashing can be either corruption of the lot or outdated mods. TOOL Mod changes alone won't crash a save.

    Yes, I've done the 50/50 method through my Mods folder about 3 times now over the last week trying to fix various performance issues; I also ran the Better Exceptions report to find more corrupted files to remove.  I was actually able to find some outdated/bad mods that I deleted, but nothing came up related to this crashing issue.  Like I mentioned, it crashes on that particular lot even without any mods in my game (discovered this doing the 50/50 method).

    I just got done playing with that household for the past 4-5 hours.  It didn't crash, but I also didn't move my camera much.  On the penthouse lot, I kept the in-game camera at an angled birds eye view and at a distance with the walls cutaway, which kind of sucks for immersion, but it was at least playable that way.  When I took those sims to other lots, I could move my camera around freely and it didn't crash.  This issue is very particular to this one single lot, which makes me wonder if it is a bug in the game.

    @AkennArt It's still likely to be some kind of corruption on that lot. Try saving the lot (or rooms, but I think this one is a Penthouse) to the Library, bulldozing the lot, then re-placing it from the Library. That might clear any lot glitches.

    I’ve tried to repro your issue in a clean game on two of my Macs, one Apple silicon (Sonoma), one Intel (Ventura), and not managed to. The issue really does appear to be with something in your user data, save or lot related.

    All this testing has led me to believe that the Sims is just a game with a lot of strange quirks. 🥴 I'm currently testing this now: I bulldozed the penthouse build (saved to my Library first), exited out of my game back to the Main Menu and made sure I saved the game first.  Went back to the now empty penthouse lot, started twirling around my camera, and when I lowered my camera down as far as it could go, down to the sims' eye level, and started twirling it, it crashed.  So I opened back up my game, went back to that same empty penthouse lot, kept the camera at roughly a 45 degree angle or so, and have been twirling all over the place, no crashing.  Isn't that so weird?!  Whatever the glitch, it's only affecting one specific camera angle on one specific penthouse lot in one specific save file.  That's why the selfie camera glitched to when I rotated it horizontally, because it's a camera angle also at the sims' eye level.  I wonder if I should just come to expect stuff like this in the game...smh haha

    Anyway, thank you @luthienrising and @Bluebellflora for your time and attention to this!!  I may not be able to get all the aesthetic photos on this lot, but at least I can see my sims up close again. 🙃

    @AkennArt

    You’re welcome! If you upload the penthouse lot to the gallery I’ll happily download and test in my game 🙂

    @Bluebellflora Unfortunately the latest patch just dropped before I could do so and now my game is offline with no access to the Gallery because I am not ready to update it given all my mods and cc. Once I patch up my game, I'll test the issue to see if it's still there. If it is, I'll circle back and upload the lot to the library. Thanks!
