No error message, no. It's either an instantaneous reset or an instant crash.

After playing a bit more I've zeroed in on the actual issue here: going to manage worlds, exiting to main menu, closing the game, etc. resets ALL progress made in that sitting. I attempted building from live mode by moving in a sim on the apartment I wanted to build. Then I spammed the motherlode cheat a few times to have enough money to actually by the decor. When I went to manage worlds after building, not only did all of my progress on the build reset but my sim's funds reset to before I used the motherlode cheats. Basically, nothing in my game is being saved. I'll edit the OP with this corrected info.
