Re: NHl 24 where's hybird controls in the game

Hello, @guo8yrmv1m8n

Hybrid controls are returning by the end of October. If you'd like to see if a refund is available, please contact the retailer the game was purchased from.

  • No need to be sarcastic,, you really think the store is going to give anyone a refund? Why were Hybrid controls removed in the first place? Who asked EA to remove them? Did you think of people who don't play video games on a 24/7 schedule and are used to simple controls they have been playing with for last 50 years?

I'm in the same boat, I bought the game at launch and was super excited, however I still havent played a single game because of the controls. You guys came up with a roster update yesterday, don't you think controls should be a top priority ?

    Thank you,

Edit: Removed obscured profanity. Please do not swear per the Answers HQ rules. -CM

I'm not being sarcastic. We've already stated numerous times the hybrid controls are returning. As far as whether or not I think a store is going to issue a refund goes, that's not up to me. It's up to the retailer.

I don't have details on why they were removed.

@EA_Aljo I appreciate that the hybrid controls are being added back, but they never should have been removed in the first place. I truly hope EA has heard the overwhelming number of complaints about this and avoids removing the hybrid controls from future releases.

As someone who's played the EA NHL series since NHL '93, I look forward to each new release, but removing the controls that us 'lifers' rely on is not ok.
  • Well said ! I just wanna know why they were removed, adding new controls is fine however removing something this important just doesn't make any sense at all.

@f15380818e8abcf3 Best guess answer you will get is a guess. When new controls are added you have to move things around and make room for them. So old control schemes might need changed/edited. So maybe they deemed the new controls good enough for everyone and that maintaining older schemes were not worth it each year.

We still aren't even sure if the hybrid controls won't be changed up a bit. Skill Stick control got some changes to it. It will be a wait and see type thing.

Clearly they didn't understand their community and it's players, this was also a way to force everyone to use total control. They didn't account for disabled and older fans of the series who rely on old control schemes.

    @RSall14

This has nothing to do with forcing people to use the new Total Control scheme. Personally, I'm sticking to skill stick because I've had a hard time adapting to Total Control and not clicking down on the right stick, but it's getting better. I'm adapting to it.

I truly feel terrible for those with mobility issues that can't use the new controls. I imagine that was one of the deciding factors for bringing the Hybrid controls back. We certainly don't want to alienate those players.

As far as this goes to those that are not disabled though, this game is vastly different than it was in 1994. Those controls were great when you had a very simple control scheme. In 2023 that's just not the case as there are far more functions now. Every time something new gets added, it somehow needs to be mapped to legacy controls. Then we have to also take in to account exploits. Such as how backskating with protect puck was abused. So, that needs to be mapped to something else. We can't have old controls where this is still possible since that defeats the purpose of removing this exploit. Quite simply though, this game isn't meant to be played with a Sega Genesis controller when it's made to support modern hardware. Again, in the case of disabled players, I wish we had a simplified control scheme for you all to use. Hopefully, the Hybrid controls will still let many of you play.

You act as if we did this to be malicious. Which absolutely is not the case.

@EA_Aljo I do feel bad for you guys... there are so many extremely negative people in these forums and I don't understand it. NHL24 is leaps and bounds better than NHL23 and bugs are par for the course with a new release by any publisher. I eagerly await the return of hybrid controls... in the meantime, I'll continue to manage with Total Control.
  • NO HYBRID / 94 CONTROLS. WOW

Not supporting EA anymore been buying ur games for 20 years, no more NHL 23 was my last game will play or buy. Btw nhl 23 is better than 24 lol

  • Ea, please !

You are hiding behind a monumental error.

No, the hybrid is not a set to be used for the

    disabled.

The majority of my team, top 100

in the world, used the hybrid, none are

    handicapped!!!

On the other hand, why is it

not possible to configure our controller like

FIFA? (We need to evolve guys!)

At the end of October, here we are.

the people who paid for the game because

of your lie are getting impatient.

    The customer must be respected.

So I bought the game early so you get all the perks
And I still haven’t played the game

Because I work way too much, and I just enjoy playing single controls tool to start learning new controls

I’m pretty sure you guys just killed my interest in playing hockey game

    Super excited to play

    No, I don’t give a damn

    Thanks  EA

  • I wish you a good day. I hate that the hybrid driver is removed. As I read in the topic that it should be available at the end of October, this driver is great. Can I ask for the relevant date and how to proceed? Or just update the game in PS4?

I've been a fan for about 20 years and I'm really saddened by the inability and reluctance to play NHL 24

Sorry, I'm Czech, translated via Google

  • I'm also Cech and I've been playing NHL for over 20 years and I haven't even played it without hybrid control yet.

I'd be careful feeling bad for EA. Each year the game has got progressively worse. The same thing goes for Madden. I can understand If EA makes certain small changes each year to keep the game fresh but this is not the case. EA is going backwards. The games 20 years ago from EA were siginficantly better and the only thing keeping EA afloat is the next gen consoles and the graphics and visuals otherwise gamers would abandon EA alltogether and stick with the old games. EA is doing nothing as it's the nex gen consoles. EA is going full on arcade and has ruined everything. Us old gamers want authentic simulation and at this point there's no hope for it. In fact, the difference between NHL and Madden on nex gen and old gen is still so marginal 3 years after the fact that at this point EA is ripping off people with the higher game prices. At this point, there is no trust in EA to bring real innovative change to their games that count. The funny thing is EA brought back nhl 94 last year as a 25 year anniversary and a year later they removed the 94 controls. Nothing EA does at this point makes any sense. I would not feel bad for them the slightest.

  • Are you going to have the updates available through the game console?

I wish EA really cared about thier customers  !!!!!

Like other people here, I too was so excited about starting another ultimate team season and find out that the "hybrid controls" were not an option.

I also went out and purchased a PS5, thinking this was going to be a great thing for the hockey game and I'm really upset that I wasted my money

on the "early release" of the game and this system, because it is just unplayable for me.

I think the NHL 24 game has "jumped the shark"...  If you are under 30 years old, ask your parents what that expresion means.

Maybe I'll turn the game on after November 1st... maybe the hybrid controls will be back then 🙂

  • I wont even touch NHL until the hybrid returns. Im 47. Im not in a position to try and re-learn new controls due to time. Im not getting paid to learn new controls. This sucks. Do we have a set date when this will return????

Hybrid controls (let alone 94) are older than some of the playerbase - the game is evolving to the point where it just can't work with fewer controls (for better or worse).

EA isn't being malicious with these changes, its just a product of the times. I absolutely loathed skill stick back in 2005 or whatever but it honestly didn't take long to get used to - you just need to give it a chance

hybrid control is supposed to return at the end of October. I'm also waiting for it and I'm 43. We older generations are used to just playing like that.

  • I do understand that its hard to make everyone happy, actually it's impossible...but why does the development team from the NHL series feel the need to take things out of the game to add improvements? The "True Broadcast camera" is a classic example. I've been playing this game since its inception and I like what I like "True Broadcast and Hybrid controls" It's just a simple matter of enjoyment and having the NHL experience while playing a video game. I also understand that Hockey isn't' the most popular sport, and only one company makes a NHL video game (EA)  that the hockey loving community can play and for that I thank you! In my honest opinion NHL 22 was the last good hockey game produced by EA. I have since reloaded NHL 23 but I have to turn off my internet so that the update doesn't take away the "True Broadcast Camera" and I can do without the "Rainbow hockey sticks" who in the NHL plays with a Rainbow hockey stick?

I have been playing MLB the show and NBA 2k since the inception of these games, and they add but never subtract....unlimited camera angles and controls....I always know what I like is going to be there when I load the newest version of the game, and I certainly know they wont delete something "Post launch, like EA"  That being said, Thank you for creating these games, but please stop messing with the "Legacy" items that all of us long time (Gamers) customers enjoy..

  • Quelle est la date de la prochaine mise-à-jour ? Je suis en attente jouer avec la commande hybride. On dit la fin octobre,  mais avez plus de précision maintenant ?

  • Thanks for the updates with the hybrid controls I was finally able to play.

  • Can we fix the controlled dekes with the old controls? Everytime I try to deke on a breakaway I do this stupid animation now and not shoot the puck! Back to 23 controls with the stick settings please!
