Apex Legends - Desired Improvements - Opinion
This is just my opinion. My hope is that developers see this and use it to improve this game that so many people enjoy.
There are many good things about Apex Legends, the gun play, the graphics, the realism (compared to other games), the fan base.
There are so many good things about Apex but there are some things that it lacks which does explain why the Twitch viewer count is not a touch on Titles like Fortnite, World of Warcraft, GTA, just to name a few. Here I am going to outline my personal improvements for the game that I believe would send it straight back to the success it had during the first week of release, with 30M+ hours watched in the first week on Twitch.
Tournaments - competitive
To grab the attention of media (articles), social media (YouTube, twitch), content creators and not to mention normal gamers, tournaments and a sense of competition should be added.
As an example, Fortnite viewers and players spiked once competitions and tournaments were introduced, boasting in-game and real life rewards. The Fortnite World Cup caught attention of many newspapers who published articles which illustrated the size Fortnite had grown to which led to a wider knowledge and more players.
EA are a very well know company who are not short of money. The Apex tournament that actually had a prize pool brought some attention but when competing with titles like Fortnite, GTA and other big games, it doesn’t scratch the surface. EA need to suddenly come out with a massive update or introduction of competition for players who want that edge, the possibility of going big or back to the lobby. Cash prizes are not the main option here, if tournaments offered in-game currency as rewards, it would entice many players to join and have a go at the game.
Crossplay - offer to all platforms
Again, I will be comparing a lot to Fortnite here since it is the most popular Battle Royale at the moment, just ahead of Apex, with a lot more time to define their game and strategy.
I am aware that crossplay is in the works, as has been mentioned in a few in a few interviews with developers, but if they gave people an idea of when they will get it, people may start playing and getting good at the game on their platform, in the hopes of being able to show up their friends on other platforms when that release date for crossplay comes. Personally, would love to have crossplay introduced since many of my friends play it but since we can’t play with each other, there isn’t as much of a desire to play as their would be if we had the chance to show each other how good we are. Again, it would also introduce an internal competitive element.
Touching on other platforms, if EA offered the Switch access to Apex then it might boost the player count a lot. This is because Apex is quite a Switch-friendly game, since the controls merge quite well with the setup of the Nintendo Switch. I don’t have a switch myself, but I know many people who do and would love to get their hands on Apex Legends!
Don’t be something it’s not
This isn’t quite an improvement but it’s almost a guideline. I know that the 2 points (however with many other things I haven’t mentioned that link with them) I have mentioned are similar to Fortnite, however, Apex is a battle Royale, same as Fortnite, and if people want to play Apex over Fortnite, they have to offer the same and MORE. Apex already offers more with the amazing gun play, making sure nothing is too overpowered, incredible characters to play as, but it lacks the points above, which are core to competitive and social players which, now that esports is becoming more enticing, makes up a a large portion of players.
I don’t make this post to make Apex like anything else. I’m just giving my personal opinion which has been influenced by community posts and opinions of other players.
I hope that someone who reads this actually has the ability to give these points a fair hearing by EA which could possibly improve a game that so many people love, but if not... a guy can always dream.
