I feel he could use a buff/rework.
kinda sits with a few mindsets.
team game- so his skills should support his team better
majority of the game is heading for the next circle in open areas - so his best time to shine only happens some of the time
overall the gas needs some sort of buff - mines deploy too slow, don't do enough damage or stun.i think the size of the gas is alright but maybe there is something to be played with here as well. as it stands right now you could have a house setup with gas, and you can still just have a squad rush in with shotguns and ignore the traps. in any aggressive moments you are pretty much wasting time trying to throw traps down because of the arming time.
saying its a team game, then the defense characters should be defense for the team - feel like there should be less harm done to teammates by proxy of the gas. keep the blur effect but remove the slow. make your teams mines look distinguishable from some other random caustic's mines.
nox vision is pretty lame - lets say we rework nox gas so its a DoT. some one who steps in the gas gets hit with a DoT that does damage per tick that goes on for lets say 5-10 seconds. this would be a buff to the damage/ deterrent to wanting to just run though the traps. it would make the passive more useful as people still effected by the gas would stay highlighted longer.
lets flip the tables- lets say instead of a buff per say, he gets a rework on his tools.
what if you swap his ultimate with his quick skill.
this pretty much changes caustic into a more balanced character for all situations. being able to throw gas grenades more often means his skills are more suited for combat and less about looking for a place to setup and hoping it pays off. his ultimate would be the payoff for reaching end game, finding a house and setting up camp. hard to say on how much of how many you would do for this.
lets say :
size of grenade gas smoke reduced so its not so much an ULT and more like a quick skill
can only throw one grenade at a time [ maybe 2, this really depends on how the cool down works, or how well you make the gas work]
nox gas does DoT so the gas is meant to tag people and boost his passive
give his ULT like fewer traps [2, maybe even just 1] but increase the size of the chance to set them off and size of the gas- pretty much remove being able to lock down and entire house- make it so he can block like one entrance or side of a house.
also hitboxes. not sure what could be done about this, but there is a clear disadvantage of having a giant hit box and zero escape tools.

Yes, the fix should be:
1)Gas damage turned into a DoT that resets and lengthen it's duration every second spent inside of a gas cloud (min: 5sec, max: 10sec). Damage also ramps up overtime like it currently does with the longer you stay inside of a gas cloud.
2)Slow and vision blurring effect last as long as you are still affected by the DoT.
3)As long as you are affected by the DoT, Caustic has his "Nox vision" on you like he currently has when somebody is under the effect of his trap (yellow version of bloodhound's ult).
4)Traps should only be deactivated by grenades, not simply shooting at the base. At least that or the CD SIGNIFICANTLY reduced (At the moment, unless you have a building to use as cover to hide your traps, they are useless and easy to deactivate in the open).
5)Allies aren't affected (slowed/blurred vision) anymore (right now nobody enjoys fighting with him as a teamate because they are affected as well).
6)His traps need an AoE increase. A little buff horizontally but mainly also vertically (a trap should gas the floor underneath and above as well).
7)His grenade needs a severe buff to it's horizontal and vertical AoE. For an ult, it barely covers one story of a building and it has a ridiculous 3min and 20sec cooldown (about 2 sec to get 1% recharge). It's really pathetic.

His gas have to aply DOT, kinda like Thermite does and poisoned enemies should give him full benefits of it.
His Ultimate need lower CD - it's just close range small area denial grenade, with it's usability and effectivenes combined with recharge time it's useless most of the time in comparison to Bloodhound's / Pathfinder's / Lifeline's.
Maybe it should not affect his allies too, but I am fine with it as long as the gas does it's purpose - deny enemy to walk in or suffer consequences.- 6 years ago
I think the only adjustment necessary is to his passive. He should be able to see through his gas at all times. As is, he can only see enemies within the gas AoE.
An example: He is within the Nox Gas AoE but enemies are not. He should see them highlighted green while he is within the gas.
Another example: In open area, mid/long range, the Nox Grenade is thrown between Caustic and the enemy, but both parties are just outside the AoE. He should see them so long as his line of sight travels through the gas.
