Its not a scam since they are totally transparent about the price of a loot box in relations to the drop probabilities. If you have a normally functioning brain, you should figure out what approx chances you've got to get certain items by just comparing how many items of a certain type you HAVE vs how many you DONT HAVE. And the high prices can be justified by the high demand. Thats how markets work you know
It was a long time ago I studied mathematical statistics but I think 1/20 purple loot (7.5% drop rate )is quite the normal outcome. I think there is a MINIMUM 20% probability that you get 0 purples out of 20 boxes, 34% that you get one, 26% that you get two, 12% that you get three, 4% that you get 4 and 1% that you get five. And when I say minimum is because the drop rates show the probability to get at least one out of three items in each box.
Bottom line is that there is nothing hidden about the loot box market. People must just learn to think for themselves and control their impulses instead of blaming Respawn.

@Balladalidila thank you for that very thorough statistical breakdown. Im not saying theres anything hidden/rigged when buying packs, im just saying they are stuffed with complete trash and the end product you get compared to the input is riddiculos. I feel sorry for the kids who actually spend their money, or rather their parents money, on this. And when you eventually get a gold item it turns out to be a banner frame or some other worthless item which is somehow in the same caregory as a legendary skin.
It took me one purchase (10 packs) to realize this but as you say clearly theres a demand for them. Guess people have more money than sense...

I dont fully understand what you mean with "the end product you get compared to the input is ridiculous" but I guess you mean that the price of a loot box approx $1 each is not worth the totally revealed statistical probabilities of getting something "cool". I agree with that 100%. Loot boxes should only be for those with a surplus of disposable income who choose to 1) support the devs in this otherwise totally free game 2) spend money on this game to look pretty (cosmetics) as other people spend money on shopping/partying/restaurants etc etc.I guess you are right about the immorally of such system since kids brains/impulse control/rational thinking isnt developed but on the other hand; the game IS rated PEGI16 and I am a little bit against blaming "the society" rather than blaming parents who cant control their children.
