I mean yeah sure, you can punish them, but nothing is really done about the remaining players contending. Could we add some changes to balance it out from the 2/1vs3? Maybe split their resources be...
As you mentioned, you don't want to join a game that has a missing player because it's not fair on them.
The only way to balance it is to increase power to remaining players through the shop resource system to fill the gap the missing player has left.
Buffing damage done / received can negatively impact the match as clutch plays can still be made.
Players still gamer rage, whether through over time pent up frustration or other wise.
It doesn't make sense why you'd leave anyway, matches last 5 minutes if you're being smashed.
I've been in other online games where you've joined the losing side to make up for deserters. It's not fun, and often is hard to swing it back to your favour. It ruins your stats if you're keeping up with that and is ultimately more frustrating.
Yeah changing damage modifiers won't solve the issue and is a band aid fix that will be toxic to all players remaining. I can see people abusing it 100%.
I honestly think the best solution is just divvying the credits from the leaver between the remaining party members. More resources to spend on tacticals / health regen / weapon mods can increase your chance of winning through skilled play and makes up for the missing team member if you're able to buy that one extra shield battery
