Bigger characters hip-fire ADS/size balance ideas

Now I've been thinking for a while about what the best way to balance bigger characters like Gibraltar & Caustic with other smaller characters like Wraith & Lifeline.

I think it's important that speed of all characters remains the same as it's a vital part of keeping teams together, so I didn't even consider that for this balance.

One thing that has always bugged me is that a character like Wraith can run around with a weapon like a spitfire or devotion and hip-fire with deadly accuracy. It would make sense that bigger characters like Gibraltar & Caustic would have this advantage when it came to bigger and heavier guns.

So my idea has been that each character would have a strength rating and that would would affect hip-fire accuracy & ADS recoil depending on the weight of the weapon. For smaller weapons like the RE-45 or the R99 there would be practically no change between all characters. For weapons like the Longbow, Devotion & Spitfire the difference would be a lot more noticeable.

The question at that point is how you display weapon weight stats or whether you make it more of a hidden stat, to save people from trying to work things out on the fly.

I hope this idea connects with people and i'd love to hear any additional ideas that people may have in regards to it.

Keep Fighting Bruddahs!

  • This is a fantastic idea to compensate for the hitbox. But I don't think this feature should be in this game.

    Why?

    1. I prefer the game remains as a pure fps shooter game which rely on player's aiming, reflex to determine the battle. That's why MOBA features should not be included in this game ( MOBA features as in character stats like Strength, Agility, or weapon stat like Critical Chance)

    2. Even if they put your suggestion into implementation, it's easy to work around. It does not exactly balance anything, Wraith still pick R99, Wingman,Peacekeeper over Spitfire. Gib,Caustic's hitbox is still easy to hit, and smaller legends are still fast and effective with smaller guns. R99/Peacekeeper still melt Spitfire in closed range, Wingman still win Spitfire in mid range

I know what you mean, a Wraith using an R99 is going to have an advantage over a Gib using the same weapon.

But this at least swings favour in Gibs way in terms of adaptability with different weapons, it's an odd trade off and maybe damage reduction would be better.

As I said the strength stat itself would be hidden more likely and just be something where you think okay yeah Gibraltar is a big boy let's use big guns. You're also going to come into roadblocks at every corner if you try to avoid new stats when it comes to balancing as damage reduction is another great potential balancing tool.

Anyway this is just one of many possible ideas to balance out the game, I think it'll end up being a combination of different ideas to create something that players are happy with.

  • Actually, different hit box size is proven not working for Apex.
Why Bloodhound's head has to be bigger than everyone else, why Pathfinder hitbox is so different than other legends and give him advantage, why Gib, Caustic hitbox need to be 1.5 time the size of average legend, and why Wraith, Lifeline are top tier picks just because their hitbox are so good? Diff hitbox size gives so much unnecessary trouble without any real benefit.

I'd say the best way is same hitbox for everyone.

In a game like Fortnite this works because the character models are all the same but for Apex this would be problematic.

Suddenly Gibraltar would swing all the way from one side to the other as bullets would be flying through him. He's a big boy and really should be soaking up damage for your team not avoiding it, there just needs to be an appropriate balance so that he can do that effectively.

Wrath on the other hand would be having a similar problem to Pathfinders original hit-box, except way worse.

There will be a way for this imbalance in size to be addressed and i'm sure Respawn are working on something to solve it, we just have to hope it's enough!
