Can someone help me out here? Is this actually offensive?

So I created a new club, and I had a groundbreaking (not really) idea for a club tag: GAIA. As far as I knew, this meant “Earth.” I submit and I get a pop up that says that the club name or tag is offensive or inappropriate. So I change the club name from “Apex Sucks” to “CasensHyper” (you know how Respawn is). But still I got the pop up that my club name or tag is offensive or appropriate. Which means that by process of elimination, the name “Gaia” is offensive or inappropriate? I’m not an expert on slurs or anything, but I’ve never heard of someone being offended by that word. So I Google “Is Gaia offensive?” The top results are about gaming products and a movie by the name of Gaia. I don’t know about you, but if I was a company, I wouldn’t name by product something that’s offensive. So I Google if it’s inappropriate. The results are mostly about the movie aforementioned. So I Google what it actually means. And I was right, it means Earth or a Greek goddess that personifies the earth. Can someone inform me if this is offensive, and to what group? I kinda hate the idea that RESPAWN decides what’s offensive, not the general population. Links to the pop up Apex gave me and the definition below.

  • So, your tag was GAIA but the name was Apex Sucks and you are wondering why they are messing with you?

  • @PiabeticI cancelled the first club I tried to make and tried to make a new club. It should reset whatever offensive/inappropriate programming they used. Besides, Apex Sucks isn’t offensive or inappropriate, if that’s the case then they need to lighten up. I also tried to make a third club, with a completely random club tag (MPFZ) and it let me create it, so I would assume it has to do with the “Gaia.”

  • @CasensHyperIn the end, I don’t really care about the club tag that my club has. But it feels ridiculous that Respawn is deciding which words it decides are offensive/inappropriate, regardless of what normal people are saying. I can imagine devs at a table, discussing which words they’ve decided are offensive for the new season. Maybe they’ll even put it in the patch notes.

@BigBlackCaustic I don’t even think that it’s close to being offensive at all. The closest thing to an offensive word word be the word “gay” which is only offensive in the wrong context. And even that’s kind of a stretch.
