I get the idea of gas trap dmg.. but if the damage is buffed enough to matter, and it doesn't affect teammates at all, he could quickly become OP.
I like the idea of massively increasing gas dmg (10-20-30 hp per half-sec), eliminating slow, and making it damage *everyone* (except caustics with gas masks on)... Then going through it will really hurt, but you can't use it on top of your team... This would solve another problem, which is not knowing which caustic gas is friendly vs enemy (and thus which will damage you), because it will always damage you.
I dont really want the gas damage to be high personally, i like how it lingers and blocks off areas so you can pick where you fight and reduce enemies vision etc. Problem i think he has is that people who know how much damage it does just ignore it and focus on you instead of taking the canisters into consideration as a threat. Maybe have it where the damage is multiplied by the duration exposed or something? So if theyre standing in it fighting itll do an increasing amount of damage or even a set amount of damage instead so they know "If i push and go into this gas itll be a risk because ill lose atleast x health."
I really enjoy playing Caustic and currently playing him exclusively, having good matches too. Just seems its easily negated if say youre defending an entrance or an area and the enemy team just walks straight through it because they know it isnt much of a factor in their advance.
