Does anyone else not think the new damage for being outside the ring in Elite total overkill?! Was camping really that much of a problem?!
There are so many legit reason why you may need to be out the ring for a time, especially in the early stages, that have nothing to do with camping. You just won combat and need to loot + heal, you are still in combat, your team got killed and you wait for victors to stop looking so you can get banners, you want to respawn near death boxes to get stuff back, you need to respawn at beacon which is just outside ring... and so on and so on.
15 dmg per tick means you simply cannot afford to get caught outside, you wouldn't even have time to go up a balloon zipline with getting knocked!! This decision seems weird to me, are that many people really camping?! And tbh if that many people really are camping each game it's a self-defeating strategy anyway so makes no difference in the end. Certainly not enough to warrant such draconian measures!
A system where damage increases progressively with time and distance, which doesn't scale if you are in active combat or respawning teammates would be a far better solution to this problem (if one even exists)... but of course that would take some time and effort to implement.
In the end who wants to win a game cos 75% of the enemies got killed off by the ring... like that's any fun ☹️
If this really is a problem there has to be a better solution than this surely... going from 1 dmg per tick to 15 is just insane imo.

100%
- 7 years ago@kartikins Well I know that there were alot of ppl camping outside the circle. I dunno bout Elite cause I haven’t played it much, but in normal ones. Once there was a team camping in a house in the second storm... while me and my team were running towards the circle, just to attack anyone running.
I’ve also seen multiple teams fighting each other outside the circle where they had no business being. They were in bunker while the storm was nearing repulsor!
But the 15dmg is a weird one xD - 7 years ago@kartikins I actually think the original damage values were fine, but the way to curb circle play isn't simply flat damage boosts, its damage ramping. Every 10 seconds, double the damage. That way the first couple zones you can take a bit of chunky damage from, but don't linger because it will destroy you if you stay too long. After about 30 seconds in the first zone (plenty of time to get out of it if you react as soon as it arrives and prioritise movement), it starts doing 8 damage per tick, then 40s 16 damage etc. By the time you are in the later zones, you should never be in them for more than 10 seconds. In the last 2 zones, camping and healing would simply be impossible because the damage would ramp up to almost instant kill by the time the last two zones close. If you have one person camping the last zone, you have the tiny circle for the last squad to sit safely in while the other person ramps up to 20, then 40 damage taken per second. Completely impossible to survive.

So strongly agree with this post.
The problem the new high damage creates, is that people have no time to loot buildings, or get embroiled in any fights, it's literally changing the meta to dropping roughly at the center of the map, loot a lvl 1 body shield and 1 weapon, and get into the first ring.
Once there, you find any hiding spot to hide in since your gear is very bad, and move into next ring, then hide again, and pray you might loot some deathbox with a spitfire if you're lucky.

I really don't understand this change; we knew what needed to be fixed (late game camping), and we knew what we wanted to avoid changing (everything else).
How is this change at all appropriate?!?
No matter the numbers involved, the entire approach is flawed; flat increases will never properly address the issues at hand.
As a myriad of others have (and had) already suggested, ramp the damage based upon time & distance outside the ring.
Early game is largely unaffected, late game is fixed, simples!

@TheJumpingJawaIt wasn't only about late game camping though. In fact, I think it specifically was about early game, because what people were doing was camp to get into the top 5. Noone was camping to win the match. And yes, people camped inside the zone to get there. I even did it myself once just to see how much of a streak I could build up by sitting in the zone until 5 squads. The answer was 11, and the 12th broke it only because I couldn't find a med or phoenix kit in my starter zone. It was a cheesy, low skill way to reliably get top 5, and totally devaluated the streak badge because whenever you see it on a person now, they may have just camped it.
