TL:DR Version of this very important post:
Aim assist is very powerful, and makes it very easy to play better than the average keyboard mouse player, which is unfair.
Aim assist provides:
- Extremely powerful tracking
- Reduced/removed recoil
- Tracking through smoke
- In some instances of using it, tracking through walls.
What I experienced in short testing:
- Aim Snap, used with a shotgun I was almost unable to miss
- Strong Tracking, with ability to easily get headshots due to not having to spend time tracking, only adjusting inside the tracking.
- Able to aim down sights through smoke and track enemies, and fire blindly landing a good majority of my shots.
- Sniper aim assist, I had trouble with this, but I did experience tracking, I just wasn't used to a controller.
When I used this in training, my friend was unable to kill me before I would lock on, and blast headshots as if I was using an aimbot.
Possible solutions:
- Remove aim assist on PC
- Group Aim Assist players differently (Maybe cross platform, force controller players against console controller players?)
- Severely reduce aim assist on PC (Add recoil, and other changes to make it fair against keyboard/mouse users)
I really think Aim assist is causing a lot of false cheating reporting on Apex. Cheaters very much do still exist, but Aim assist is a relatively high power aimbot, built into the game.
- 6 years agoExactly all of what @4ccbf460f7b926b1 said, except for that "trying to find a middle ground" part through reducing the power of aim assist or something. PC platform should be mouse and keyboard vs mouse and keyboard, period. There is no other way to achieve an even playfield across all skill levels.
This issue is also actually more messed up then I thought. Through a quick search on youtube the other day I found videos titled something along the lines of "Is your aim in Apex on PC average or below? Then consider using a controller". Aim assist on PC needs to go. As I stated, nobody bought a PC so they could play games using a controller and therefore I will keep arguing the point that the majority of controller players on PC solely does it for the benefit of aim assist.
