Defender roll review (Gibralter, Caustic, Wattson)
This is an overview & review of each legend that possess the defender roll. The purpose is to compare what each legend is immediately capable of doing in comparison directly to other defenders with their kit.
Gibraltar
- Gunshield defends you and gibby.
- Dome blocks gunfire and gives quick meds + gibby quick pickup.
- Ultimate bombardment provides either the quick bombing to breakup combat / short area denial or annihilation of enemy that stays inside.
Caustic
- Reveal enemies being damaged by gas.
- Plant gas traps, small barriers against gunfire, damaging and slowing smokescreen.
- Larger damaging and slowing smokescreen grenade.
Wattson
- Allows her to get defences up faster.
- Fence prevents easy approaching of enemies. Damages and slows enemies that pass through.
- Pylon defends against all explosive armaments. Recharges allies shields slowly.
Where Gibraltar can easily defend you quickly and effectively, caustic and wattson both require setting up ahead of time or rapid setting up in a dangerous situation.
Gibraltar can outright prevent damage with tactical, caustic obscures both enemies and allies vision alike and wattson can only deter enemies approaching from angles where they can't hit the fences.
Gibraltar's ultimate is an immediate assault or deterrent against attacks. Caustic's ultimate is a slow blanket assault of vision obsure and long lasting area denial (mainly effective inside or final ring), easily overcome by threat detectors or bloodhound / crypto. Wattson's ultimate is instant defence against bombing & slow shield recharging.

Defender usefulness outdoors

Defender downsides
- Wattsons fences can easily be shot and deactivated if base is visible. Fence is an unintended impediment to those whom are light sensitive when aiming through. Passive exclusively for tactical & ultimate.
- Caustic's gas blocks line of sight for enemies and allies alike. Defensive capabilities almost fully nullified by any threat detection skill or scope, unlike Gibraltar or Wattson. Enemies can quickly escape gas most of the time, rendering purpose of "detecting enemies in gas" as useless for the most part. Gas canister's bottom can be shot if visible, but most situations this can be avoided by manually setting it off. Passive exclusively for tactical & ultimate or playing against enemy caustic. Hitbox size.
- Gibraltar's dome shield is large beacon when used, letting others know where you are (but considering how powerful it really is, this is fair). Hitbox size.
Potential Caustic Buff Suggestions
- Allies in caustics gas take reduced damage.
- Give gas height so higher ground enemies can't just see you and easily murder you.
- Enemies leaving the gas do not immediately lose gas damage (no slow outside is fine), but lose 2 pips of damage per tick outside of gas (regaining previous full ticks if they re-enter gas while a certain window is active, last tic deals 1dmg). Meaning an enemy that walks into gas keeps visibility detection for a minimum of 2 seconds, maximum of 5.
- Reviving allies in your gas thickens the gas for enemies, blocking sight, and increasing damaging intensity of all connected gas.
- Gas interferes with ordinance, delaying its activation in gas and revealing it to allies.
- *The point being, if you are going to blind even your ALLIES with the gas, it better do a damn good job of protecting them. Balance out that large detriment that can get them killed*
Potential Wattson Buff Suggestions
- Modify fence capabilities to enable wall placements. The resulting height would be the same as before and still reach to the ground, only the base would be propped against the wall instead. It would still be a fence. Basically on walls the X & Z placement axis of the fence would be modifiable, but not the Y.
- Either allow a fence node to be directly placed on a door, or allow a fence to connect to a door, electrically charging it so that when someone walks into it or interacts with it they take damage and are slowed as if they had walked through a fence.
- Allow fences to charge zipelines (not redeploys).
- Increase pylon shield recharge speed.
- At least for allied fences, adjust the fence lighting brightness so it's not harmful / distracting.
- Pylon occasionally deflecting shots away from allies in its radius.
- Wattson can walk through anyones fences without them deactivating (she is wearing conductive gear and a pylon on her back, lets see some form & function)
- Alternatively to buffing shield charge rate, have it occasionally produce shield cells from a side compartment. (this function would have to be limited)
- *if her abilities are truly centered around her gear, meaning shes vulnerable without them, it needs to be highly functional when active.*
The buffs should revolve around the same concept as Gibraltar's clear cut build. "This is how I defend you".
Again this is looking at those in the defender rolls, not in comparison with non-defender legends.
