I think it was a step in the wrong direction to remove bhop-healing, but it isnt even close to be game breaking. For me however, it has little to do with "lowering the skill cap of the game", or "catering to casual players" etc. Fact is that bhop-healing wasnt a super hard thing to learn, and for those who coulnt, it was super easy to make a macro for it.
The reason why I think it was a step in the wrong direction comes from the elements that I think Apex is, compared to other BR games out there. Its fast, it flows with crazy action going on around you, where the mastering of movement plays a big part of what makes this game great.
With Bhop healing (and before the changes to shooting while sliding), you could be in constant movement, downing people left and right, and never really stop. Now with it removed, its like this on discord in middle of the fight : "guys, play safe while I pop some shields here crouching in this corner". It takes away flow and pace of the game and some of the satisfaction you get from mastering the movement.
