Do thematic packs count toward your heirloom pity timer

Just got heirloom shards in one of my 3 octane packs and was wondering if that now resets my pity timer back to 500 for the normal apex packs or if they are on separate loot tables and my pity timer is still intact from the normal packs.

especially considering the hero specific packs have higher chances of legendary/epic items than normal packs, it could be either way

suppose this is respawn making up for not giving me heirloom shards this anniversary collection event like last year.

  • Hey there,yep I think there's been a mixup.

@RockScorpion384 Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but for heirloom purposes the thematic packs are the same as Apex packs. They'll have the low chance of randomly getting shards, they'll count towards the 500 pack guarantee, and  it's your 500th Apex or Thematic pack it'll give you the shards and reset the guarantee.

The Collection event packs are different, they count towards the collection event reward.

So in this case, your counter will be reset. I know it's probably not what you wanted - another set of shards again soon would be very nice - but I hope this clears things up.

Oh and congrats on the shards.

    Hi @RockScorpion384,

Epic and Legendary packs from the BP would trigger the timer but not the likes of event/special packs.

  • @EA_LannaSo my timer is still intact? So I basically just got extremely lucky with getting an heirloom in my event pack and it has no effect on my normal packs?

so if theoretically i was on pack 499 of 500 without an heirloom i would still get it in my next normal pack? The octane pack wouldnt count as the 500th pack?

    Hi @RockScorpion384,

Oh that's a good point! Thematics packs can drop heirlooms and packs with heirlooms do reset the timers...so taking that into consideration, my gut says it should reset but I'm going to tag @EA_David just in case. He'll set us straight on this. 🙂

  • Hello. I am a bit confused by the answer given. Could you please clarify. If I have already opened 499 apex packs and have not received an heirloom and then purchase the entire collection event would I be rewarded heirloom shards and the collection event heirloom or would it reset the 499 packs without giving me the guaranteed heirloom after 500 packs?

In short does buying a collection event reset my opened pack count towards a guaranteed heirloom since I get an heirloom with the collection event or does it not reset my opened pack count?

@I-Own-Ur-F8 As far as I am aware, the collection event packs are completely separate from the 500-pack heirloom shard guarantee. Collection event packs only count toward the heirloom for that collection event. If I'm understanding correctly, hypothetically, if you have opened 499 packs and then buy out a collection event, you would get the collection event heirloom, and your regular pack count would still be at 499, since the event packs do not count toward that

Thank you @dSKyNafinchin for the fast replay. I'm hoping you are correct and hopefully the community manager will clarify this for those of us who are confused. I'm thinking of buying the Valkyrie collection event, but was worried it would reset the count on my current regular packs. Thanks again for the reply.

    Hey @I-Own-Ur-F8,

@dSKyNafinchin is correct! Getting the guaranteed heirloom (or in this case the Valkyrie skin) from a collection event will not reset your progress towards getting an heirloom from other packs.

Collection packs do not count towards this, so you'd be in the same position after picking up the prestige skin as before.

  • Thank you @EA_Mako for the follow up. I’m very glad to hear that. I feel much more confident in considering the heirloom purchase. You and @dSKyNafinchin have been very helpful!

But if I get heirloom shards as like the event reward would that be my pity for another heirloom.
