This was implemented due to a blitzkrieg strategy employed in high tier play, in which a Revenant death totems, Crypto emps, and Wraith portals. It was very un-counterable.
To discourage such play, and remove the sharp advantage, they implemented the electromagnetic field slowing teammates and damaging Crypto.
It will presumably continue in the game for some time to contain this strategy.
@CrazyEyedOldMan Honestly the wraith portal and rev ult is still a pretty strong combo. The crypto ult in this combo kind of feels like an extra thing.
