EA, Please Stop Punishing Adult Brazilian Apex Players for the New ECA Law
Since the new ECA (law protecting kids from loot-box on Brazil), some games have chosen different paths to comply with the law.
It differs from game to game, even on EA games.
Apex took the worst possible approach, hurting people and themselves. On Brazil, it's not illegal to have loot box in games, it's illegal ONLY if kids have easy access to the system and there's no age requirement/verification for it. Some other EA games already use an opt-out system for that: if you want to have packs, you'll need to verify your age, if you don't want to verify your age so you can't get packs. That's just the law from now own.
Apex completely removed the packs system instead of doing just that. It's such a dumb decision that hurts not only the players that were grinding for their heirloom for months/years, but also the company, that from now on, won't have brazilian players buying packs anymore.
All adult community feels hurt by this update. I was buying coins, playing the game every single day, and calculating how many more I'd had to spend/play to get my first heirloom. I have ~400 packs opened. Now, the only way for me to get a heirloom is through free packs on leveling up. Meaning after this update my first heirloom was postponed for another year (yet, only if I keep playing everyday), when I was supposed to get this in ~2 months.
I talked to the support and they said that it was because of the law and they couldn't do anything, and that's a lie. There are examples, even on EA GAMES, that complied to the law by taking the most obvious approach: age verification. You can't blame the law when you don't take a standard approach and use a lazy one instead.
First you take the ranked out from SA server, now you just do a lazy implementation not carrying for players that were grinding for the thing. It really look like you want the game dead in SA. If that is true, you are doing a really good job on that!
So, please, just use an age verification system. It'll be legal, you will earn your money, and you will not hurt people. Everyone wins.
