Feedback: SoloQ Matchmaking & Map Variety

Dear Respawn Team,
Dear EA-Team,

As a Day-One player of Apex Legends, I’d like to share some feedback and suggestions based both on my personal experience and the observations of many players in my community.

Matchmaking in Pubs Mode
Recently, there’s been a growing concern regarding matchmaking in the casual playlist, particularly for solo players. It’s not uncommon to be matched against highly coordinated squads, resulting in one-sided and frustrating matches. This tends to discourage solo players, even outside of ranked play. For a casual mode, a more balanced matchmaking system would help ensure a fair and enjoyable experience for all types of players, regardless of their individual skill level. Many in my community are experiencing similar issues across multiple seasons.

Lack of Map Variety and Evolution
While LTMs provide some seasonal variation, the core maps themselves have remained largely unchanged in structure. This has led to repetitive gameplay patterns and limited opportunities for players to explore new strategies or adapt to fresh terrain.

I’d like to suggest that with every new season, at least one map receives a meaningful update. Regular changes to the environment would introduce dynamic elements and tactical variety to the game.

Additionally, you could explore the idea of a “fusion map” that combines popular landing zones from Kings Canyon, World’s Edge, and Olympus. Lore-wise, this could be explained through a temporary dimensional rift — similar in concept to interdimensional technology seen in Titanfall. A limited-time mode could be a great way to test this idea and gather community feedback.

Why This Feedback Matters

Apex Legends remains a fantastic game with enormous potential. However, without improvements to matchmaking and fresh changes to the maps, many dedicated players are starting to lose interest. With these adjustments, I believe the game can continue to grow and maintain a strong, loyal community.

Thank you for your attention and for creating a game that has brought us all so many memorable experiences.

Best regards,
NBN-ALPHA

  • I would say that your observations of solos in pubs applies equally to ranked. The solo queue experience is poor in either hopper. But, as others have noted, the matchmaker has to work with what it has in front of it at any given time. Not sure there is any meaningful fine tuning or major overhauling that Respawn could do that would change the experience.

I too would love to see seasonal map overhauls. And a new map every third or fourth season? But, given the recent EA layoffs, this seems like a pipe dream now.

If I was Respawn and I wanted to address matchmaking issues for solo queue players then I would take a long and hard look at solo modes for the game. They've recently flirted with solos and while I hated it a lot of other people seemed to love it. But hate it or not, I think the over all health of the game is served when you give people more options to do things without the constraints, obligations, and unpredictability of teams. This game is crying out for an extraction mode. It's crying out for huge improvements to Bot Royale. It's crying out for anything that allows me to play without a team.

Whether it's pve with no other live players, or extraction with very few other live players, the opportunity for higher quality matchmaking goes up enormously, the possibility of running into cheaters and smurfs goes down enormously. And those are, imo, the biggest problems this game has right now. They're the reason everyone is leaving the game in droves, and the reason the matchmaker is left unable to properly do its job. Since there is no reason to believe that anti-cheat will start working any time soon, or that Respawn will put a stop to secondaries, then the only way forward I can see is to give people the option to stop playing with other people.
