The overall problem is, that Apex is a squad-based game, but every Legend that requires team cooperation and not 100% autonomous is perceived as a weak character to play.
The Gibby and Caustic balance is kinda a rocket science. You cannot just buff them again and again till they get fully equal to the smaller opponents in the open spaces. Even now Caustic slowly begins to become OP in close quarters (especially, right after the landing). He can turn any building into his very own chemical fortress of doom, and the hitbox size is less of an issue on the small distances.
So I don't think that defense characters will ever become fully adequate in the long range shootings without becoming overpowered in the close combat and the beginning phase.
10% damage reduction isn't enough. Do the maths yourself but, when SOLELY talking against full hp (200) purple/golden shield wearing Gib or caustic (any time one of these conditions aren't met, the 10% damage reduction does ABSOLUTELY NO difference in terms of TTK), you will see:
- Shotguns amount of shots to kill required remains unchanged
- Wingman bullets to kill required remains unchanged
- all other weapons require one more round to kill --> BUT! automatic and burst weapons all have a high RoF that it means essentially NOTHING in terms of TTK difference
So yeah, the ONLY time the TTK significantly changes is for low RoF weapons aka longbow and triple take. That is all. Those are the 2 only weapons where the 10% damage reduction of Caustic and Gib CAN make a difference (but it happens far from always though as caustic and gib encountered aren't always full hp/shield while wearing a purple or golden shield).
