Gibraltar is almost perfect: A-Wall

First off, thank you for making a great game.

To the other posters saying Gibby is OP on console (xbox)... No. Zero issues on spraying gibbys down.  This is coming from a diamond path player tired of waiting in 30min ques. He is a low tier legend.

Straight to the point on discussions:

1. Rotate Gibbys shield so it covers his head and most of his body.  No love for those love handles. Keep shield health the same. I'll still mozie his feet for dubs.

2. Complete the dome.  Throwing one down on a hill to get a revive only to be shot through the bottom really stinks. Please add in the other half of it. You could say the same for lifeline.

3. Faster ADS gun shield. Nothing like being stuck behind rock trying to poke back at a bear and the shield comes up slow.  Or close quarters in skull town, that too.

4. Gun shield health bar, or regen bar would be really nice.  After getting my arm blown off it would be really nice to know when I can use it again.

Main Discussion:

5. The game changer: Turn gibbys dome into a full on Titanfall 2 A-Wall.  Honestly,  if you do this,  I would recommend increasing cooldown.

Gibbys big boy dome would finally serve its purpose as a safe space for offensive and defensive moments.  This would really give purpose of moving him to a mid tier legend from low tier.

When you see the dome,  you're not gonna be thinking, "It's time to get on this third party."  You're gonna be thinking, "let's just wait a minute till we see the squad number drop."  You're not gonna hear that revive and think let's go right now; it's a hard reset. You might get ...  amped... out?

Why is he currently low tier? Cause he has the hitbox of the actual country Gibraltar.  When you carry the largest hitbox in the game and will see zero play at pro tournaments, you need abilities to make up for it.

Everything needs a counter, how do you stop it? Easy... Bangalore.  If you're not smoking snipers taking pot shots at your shields then you should just rolling thunder yourself. Do the same against the dome.  What's worse than smoke? Caustics gas ulti after eating taco bell.

Other arguments I've read on here:

1. Have domes do damage to enemies inside: No. Imagine doing this on the final circles. That's just cruel to those final 5 solo teams trying to get out of gold.

2. Adjust hitbox size, everyone is equal: No.  Hitbox sizes are what make these characters unique.

3. Balance differently for each platform: No. That sounds overly complicated to keep up with. We want bug fixes and content. Not meta adjustments for platforms.

My argument against this:

1. He might replace lifeline in meta with dome revivals. He already has for my squad in non ranked for the ultimate. But the increased healing rate and hitbox for her is still really good

  • @AcessorieSS I love idea 4. I won't say anything about the others because I do not completely agree with them and I'm too tired to type a counter.

Anyways, it would be amazing to get some kind of notice to see when the shield is ready again and or how much health it has. I have had instances where I thought it was ready, I run out to face and enemy, aim and ready to fire but guess what.. no shield. So I get shredded like cheese even though I'm feeling salty.

I love your arguments against those other idea's people have had and I have said the same about them. Some ideas are just not good ideas at all.
  • @iBlockHead Right! There really is no way of knowing when it is ready again. I actually cant find info anywhere on an actual time. I do know that shield cells, batteries and Phoenix kits will recharge it tho.

Look forward to your counters later when you're feeling better! Opinions always matter regardless of aggreance. This big leg boy definitely still deserves some love. I'm doubtful he'll see any play in this weekends EXP tourney.

2 issues, One, Gib is one of the lowest played heros. No one in a competitive shooter wants to be big. I'm not sure their design logic, but someone must like Overwatch while they made Gib. Second, Gib already has too many updates. 15% standing damage reduction, with a Aim shield, and an ability to block even more damage. How much does one need in passive help?

Being a BR RNG does play a role in the outcome of most matchs, but heros that each have passive damage reductions / bonus should be the moment a design team should say stop.

  • I agree no one wants to play a big hero in apex in competitive. So how do you create that incentive?

Idk if you watched the EXP tourney this weekend, but every team had the same exact comp of wraith, pathfinder, wattson/lifeline. Leading to some pretty uneventful fights other than aiming.

I dont believe any character can have too many updates if it's refused to be played.

Really they shouldn't have had damage reduction/increases. They should have just adjusted base health pools. I think respawn is passed this part now though.

They should have just normalised the character sizes...  Why beat around the bush providing fixes that don't create any change regarding the baseline problem : some characters are bigger than others.

  • @Anlbrd I don't really ever see that happening though to be honest. The amount of work that goes into remodeling every single character, and then fixing every skin isn't simple.

My opinion to fix this? Add a new gametype that makes all the heros the same size, just have different skins. Turn the abilities into gadgets and spawn them on the map. This will solve a couple standing issues with Apex.

New heros won't need the countless hours to update to balance. Second, Respawn can focus on the abilities as gadgets and change them without hurting other core gameplay like they currently do with every update.

It's true, The work needed just coudln't happen from Respawn currently. The changes to their money maker (Skins) would take sometime as well. I understand why Apex got big out of nowhere, EA paid every mass streamer to play it.

i just don't think that Resapwn thought it was going to stay golden this long, so they started working on Star Wars, and now that is hurting Apex. In all though, a remodel of every hero is what needs to be done, no matter how long it would take. Apex is not Overwatch, i'm not sure why they keep going that way.

  • They have another team working on star wars from the same studio.

The different size characters are what make them unique. I appreciate it.  Would they have made their lives easier by sticking to the sizes of all of the TF1 and TF2 models? Totally. My guess is the team didnt want to do that because then the thought process would be "why didnt you just release this BR with TF3?" The main thing people were upset about when AL was released is that it wasnt TF3.

This game is its own. I personally dont feel like its overwatch at all, and I have a lot of hours there. It has every feel of the TF universe to me minus wall running.

Back to the main discussion... finish the dome!
