Hitbox Fix?
Playing Apex Legends is great, but, like most games, there are a lot of people constantly trying to find every gitch they can. I love the game, given the sixty hours I have on its first month of release, but they really do have their fair share of problems. There were glitches of duplicating ammo, teleporting across the map, models not flying with the airship, or delaying animation time. Those were fixed fast, but an issue that is controversial is the game's hitboxes. The hitbox in this game does not follow the player model for some legends; the hitbox for Pathfinder, one of my personal favorite legends, looks like someone who gave up mid-coding. The spaces where you can hit bullets is the shape of a brick, you can hit shots between the legs or under the arms. This puts Pathfinder and other legends at a huge disadvantage in the game. You can shoot a player when your shot didn't even hit them.
Now you might be thinking, why is this a controversial topic or why don't they simply fix it? The issue is that each Legend is supposed to have different abilities, so to make sure all the abilities are “evenly balanced” in the game, some legends are supposed to be bigger than others. I agree with this statement, but I do disagree that just because one legend is bigger than another does not mean you should feel at a disadvantage just because of the size of the legend. If you shoot something that is supposed to be air (as if through the legs) it shouldn't count for damage, a “missed” shot should actually miss. They could increase the size of pathfinder and readjust the hitbox, but the model of the legend should not put you at a disadvantage. Another problem this creates is that Pathfinder is made to grapple and surprise a team so it has mobility. However, when I try to go behind a team once I’m found I’m at a disadvantage instantly because my ability is on cooldown and I'm just a brick waiting to be shot down.
So far the legends in Apex seem pretty balanced besides the hitboxes. Youtuber SookieSpy exposes the hitboxes in a video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bwehdFVANAk) showing how bad the hitbox truly is. The smaller legends have more detail, but the larger ones have the least detail as if they were made to be punching bags. I have stopped playing certain legends because of this problem and I hope it gets fixed so I can feel confident when using Pathfinder. Even sites such as Forbes (https://www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2019/02/26/apex-legends-hitboxes-explain-why-gibraltar-is-bad-and-wraith-is-godly/#5f7cf2016e6b) describe certain legends as “useless” compared to others because of the hitboxes. Apex having grown faster than Fortnite so far, will hopefully listen to its community and work to fix its problems as soon as it can. Does anyone think EA will be able to keep up with Apex Legend’s climbing popularity?
