Horrible game for newbies

Just started playing today, and I'm probably not going to be playing again.

First off, I don't know shiz about the legends or the maps, so I'm trying to learn as I go.

But secondly, there seems to be only 1 mode of play, which isn't conducive to learning since

3rd, if I die early, I find myself waiting for 10+ minutes.  Am I doing something wrong?

Sorry, but I'm not interested in playing a game where I have to wait over 10 minutes to play if I die too quickly.

I know I can leave the game and join another one, but that's annoying to do as well.

I need a mode a la CS's deathmatch, where you respawn soon after so I can figure the game and its nuances out, without worrying about being a burden on my teammates.

I've played about 5 or 6 games/rounds so far, and I haven't been able to find ammo for the guns I end up finding.

I see the round timer on the left and figure I can wait for it, and then it goes to the next round.  Do I have to wait until all squads are wiped out? The hell?

Guess I'll just go back to CS.

Moreso than not getting the practice in, it's really boring haha.

If you guys die early, do you leave and join new games, or just stay and watch?

Your teammates have a limited amount of time to go grab the banner from your loot box. If they fail to get it within that time-frame, by all means you are welcome to leave the game if you don't want to spectate them.

If you're concerned about dying early in the game and waiting X amount of minutes for your teammates to revive/respawn you, there's a couple things that could be happening here.

    1. You might not be dropping and/or staying close enough to your teammates. This is a team-based game and 3v1 or 2v1 is always better than 1v1 or 1v2 or 1v3. GREAT teams will have squadmates that stay close together. 3 players focus firing on 1 player is devastating.
    2. You're dropping into heavily populated areas often. We all drop into hot zones as it's part of the game. Some areas will give you better loot, but by doing that there comes a huge risk: more players fighting for it. If you're new to the game I personally recommend dropping later than others into areas where you don't see enemies heading towards. This way you have more time to get used to the map, weapons, and game mechanics.

There is no leave penalty in the game so you can leave when you want to without any consequences, but it's HIGHLY encouraged to wait until your whole squad is wiped out until you exit the game (unless your respawn ability timed out). If someone in your squad is still alive, you haven't lost yet.

This - but I need to admit...I was thinking the same way as the topicstarter when I first played Apex...after three or four games...I said to myself...that's it...I will never play this game again & it took a couple of games within a squad until Apex really got my attention & I finally started to like the game - esp. since I see a significant step forward.

    @tkim228

The core game mechanics are really easy to learn & also the advanced stuff can be handled pretty quick - like d3adc3ll says...the rest depends on your experience with FPS & Battle Royal...I'm at level 27 now and I still suck, when it comes to aiming...but it starts getting better the more I play & practice...I even had my first wins in the last couple of days...

My advise for you is the following:

    - Avoid especially Skull town & Artillery at the beginning...I personally think - they are the worst areas for a newby to start the game...esp. Skull town...

    - Try to play your first couple of games with a premade squad...if you have the possibility to do this.

Whether I leave or watch depends on the team I'm in and if they have a chance or wish to revive me. If my timer for being revived runs out I can leave. Sometimes I'll stay to watch just to see different play styles. You just never know and it's up to you. If you're frustrated and want to learn I'd leave once that timer reaches 0 or you're sure the others aren't coming to save you.

It's the easiest game to learn i have played in a long time, everything is simple... like really simple. There's a learning curve playing any new game but only playing 5 games like you claim and complaining is ridiculous....

No one stops you from leaving your squad once the respawn-timer is at zero. 🙂

I completely missunderstood your point here btw. & was wondering, that you need to wait for 10 minutes to get into a new game.

    Concerning your question:

    - I only quit, when there is no way to get back into the game...as long as I have a possibility to respawn...I stay.

@OwhyeeOutlawlol you still missed the point of the post.  I didn't complain about the mechanics at all.  The only thing I said I needed to learn was the Legends and the maps, and the bulk of the post was about the time spent after dying.

@datal0g@Fury_of_Duck thanks for the input.  I was only waiting 10+ minutes because I wasn't sure what was going to happen in the game since it's not covered in the mandatory tutorial.  I saw a round timer on the left, so tried to wait for that to go down to 0, thinking it might restart the game again, but it just went to round 2 or whatever.

Then I thought maybe I have to wait for everyone to die but that was taking too long, so I guess I will have to keep joining new games once I die. I do always wait for the respawn timer to hit 0 as well.  Just wanted to make sure I wasn't doing something wrong (like press Enter to respawn or some shiz like that).

I shouldn't have titled the post what I did.  Causing a lot of misunderstandings.  I have zero problem with the mechanics, it's a basic run and gun game.

The title was just part of my frustration and kneejerk reaction of not being able to play as much as I wanted I guess!

  • The timer on the left is for the zone circle progression. Each time it reaches zero, that's when the zone gets smaller.

As has been stated, yeah, there's no reason for you to be waiting around once your respawn timer's out. You're surpisingly patient!

p.s. Good on you for overcoming the toxic responses in this thread and focusing on constructive discussion of your issues with the game, I like the cut of yer jib.
  • Tkim228, i get what your saying, and I'll say it again the game is SIMPLE to learn. I'm not sure I'm really buying into anything for saying at this point.... you have played 5 to 6 games and then you searched out the internet to find this forum, spent time creating a account to post then continue to post when your not comprehending what advice your being given. Either your trolling the forum or there's a good chance you just need to stop trying to play the game...
