There is a way to keep voice and text chat muted. This was added back in season 11 or 12. I had forgotten this thread existed. Here's how to enable it:
Game Menu -> Settings -> Gameplay -> Communication Filter
On the first tab, you can scroll down.
While scroll down, look for "communication filter". This can be set to "everyone", "friends", or "no one".

@Midnight9746 Honestly I thought that was scrapped because I saw it in the patch notes but didn’t see it in game then I forgot about it... I will definitely have to remember to try this whenever I log in again
- Midnight97464 years agoHero+@TheApexLegendNub I will note that sometimes one or both teammates won't end up muted. I had it happened a few times now. I keep the setting on friends only, so I don't know if the game thought they were a friend or if its just a bug.
In the end, it keeps majority of the players muted, and that's good enough for me.- 4 years ago@Midnight9746 Whenever I would click mute squad sometimes I would still hear my teammates so I had to clear Origin’s Cache to fix it and maybe its related to that
