I absolutely despise the Dropship in ranked

I have to hold back quite a bit in order to keep things polite here... I do NOT like the return of the dropship!

We are going from:

  • an even spread of squads across the map
  • the possiblity to loot longer or push quicker
  • more idleable downtime between matches
  • matches lasting at least 2-3 minutes with inital looting phase and at least 1 proper fight

to

  • many squads hot dropping into 2-3 POI's 
  •  u being at the mercy of your jumpmaster if u hotdrop, drop close to a hotdrop or go play looting simulator on the edge of map
  • slightly shorter downtime between matches, however a potentially long drop phase (which is boring)
  • most matches lasting either 10 seconds (in case of an uncoordinated hotdrop), or multiple minutes of looting simulator 

I get that there are potential upsides to the dropship, like the freedom of POI choice, thus less randomness on the macro level and... i guess that's it? Heck even that isn't really an upside for most players, since if you choose to drop on your preferred POI it takes way more time to get to know the whole map and weird POI's you would never choose to drop ever.

With dropzones you can build up spatial awareness:

  • where have other squads landed?
  • how long will will they probably loot, depending on their POI?
  • Where can we rotate out? Where could we push?
  • As a squad we get at least 30 secs to 1 min of breathing time to communicate and decide on our move. We can plan out most advantageous play and then execute it (or  at least try to).
  • Sure some POI's suck to drop at, but one can usually make it work.

With the dropship:

  • the randomness starts at second 0 unless you are a full squad (which i HEAVILY doubt the majority of the playerbase plays in full squads)
  • you have absolutely no time to align yourself with the squad to figure out your move
  • you hotdrop and imemdiately die or win some fights only to get 3rd partied by closeby squads eventually, or you drop close to hotdrop, 3rd party the intial squads and then die to the 4th party who did the same. Or you drop somewhere completely random offgrid and find that half the lobby is wiped by the time you are done basic looting

 

Respawn. You have the stats and the numbers, we only have our individual experiences. Tell us those experiences are wrong, back your patchnotes with data that explains the foundation you are basing this change on. Because I do not see a world, where this change is benefitial to the majority of players :/

    Whoever brought back the dropship needs to be banned from game design for ever

    Yeah... absolutely faded decision. Respawn has made it an art going the wrong way when adressing issues bout the game. Decline in ranked population = remove POI drops. Instead of adressing the actual issue. POI imbalance, ranked being too similar to pubs (there not being a distinct identity/uniqueness to the mode), cheater issue.. lots of the ranked playerbase getting off the game cus an ALGS LAN happened during S26. Almost like those who work on the game are disconnected to how the game actually plays and what the reasons for the games issues actually are.
