I'd just like to share my season 4 frustrations, SBMM, split and Kings Canyon

I am not wanting to rant on or vent... I'd just like people's input on a couple points as I am unsure whether it's just me experiencing things this way or?

First off, I did some serious grinding in the first split to reach diamond 3 and enjoyed my time there for the remainder of the split. SBMM was introduced last split already and being pitted against predators was interesting but being in diamond 3 I figured hey... It's a learning curve. 

Then came the second split, I immediately felt the game was less enjoyable and couldn't quite put my finger on it. With time I realised that even in plat 4, I'm playing with people of rediculous rank and level... Not to mention the map feeling extremely poorly adjusted to ranked game play style versus worlds edge. It feels like a chore to play at the moment, but in order to get the rewards for my first split grind to diamond... I have to get diamond again or have it all just reduced to plat rewards. Frustrating especially being a player from South africa that deals with the issues of playing at 180ms already.

I'd just like to know whether it's only me feeling this way? Are there actually people that prefer kings canyon on ranked? Does skill based match making actually feel fair to you? I'm finding it impossible to climb the ladder... With 10 days left of the split... It almost feels like my grind in split 1 that I actually enjoyed... Was all for nought? (atleast in terms of rewards)

    No, you are hardly alone.  I had mentioned it in another thread.  First, I was going to grind for plat in World's Edge, playing with pre-made teams.  Got to Gold IV before I realized the split was coming.  I just didn't keep up on the news.

    Then the split came and they sprung Kings Canyon Season 2.  KC is just an awful map, period.  It was their first, so I didn't blame them, and to rotate it back for a bit of difference every now and then was fine.  But they made it their ranked Season 4 post split map!  

    KC is so bad, I just basically refused to go with my pre-made team mates in any ranked mode, because I know KC is all about screwing over your team mates and leaving them behind if you want to win.  Well, at least to get to my pre-split rank of Gold.  So I basically soloed until I matched my gold rank and then quit playing ranked until it changes.  I don't know, I might have playeda  few more games to unlock a weekly objective. But I haven't been back for a while.

    Do I play KC during regular rotation?  Sure.  I even didn't mind the After Dark version, which was better just for not having the Lab, and making dumb instant drop melee matches less popular.  But Apex bent to the crying and got rid of that.  Which is still fine,  because KC still sucks.

    There's no point to playing ranked after you match your pre-split rank.  With the total awfulness of KC, and its rng way to figure out how the first ten teams are eliminated, I'm glad I didn't get far pre-split like you, I would be even more pissed if I had fought to diamond.  I sure had intended to do that, too.

    @peediepoodie Kings canyon IS a very good map, but the problem with the map is that there aren't enough loot spots on the map, which is why it is soo difficult to play in ranked. Secondly, SBMM is absolutely awful atm, which is why you would most likely be struggling to get wins etc because teammates are literally bots. Thirdly there are a lot of hackers atm, and apex haven't really addressed the issue in regards to it, (i.e players using a turbo button on their controller/mouse since season 1 and still not banned).

    Also, it feels like a chore to you because the guns do not kill in 1 clip anymore, so you have to reload before you can kill 1 person from a team on your own (since teammates are useless). That is why KC does not feel as good as it used to and the game feels stale in ranked.

    @KelRiever I think KC is an amazing map, it IS better than WE but it has a lot less gun spawns and the loot tables are reduced. I'd struggle to find shields/batt's in KC but in WE i'd easily have 10 shield batt's and around 14 by the end of the game.

    I do not think that KC belongs in ranked though, but at the same time I understand the developers decisions, because half way through the season the game does get boring as hell, so this decision mixes up the gameplay and makes everyone try hard as hell for that RP/XP.

    I don't think either of you should bother with ranked TBH, from this season onwards it looks like you don't get to keep the rewards anyway, so don't bother stressing yourself out over it, at least until the dev's manage to do something different with ranked I guess.
