What you didn't seem to grasp is that this ship has sailed long ago, because we do know as fact that the penalty system has already been implemented when it was turned on by mistake.
So we are now past the question "Is a penalty system coming?", because it definitely will come. The real question is only: when?
This means that your whole argument is pointless, because the basic decision has already been made weeks ago. And when full play games even like Overwatch can implement such a thing, then Apex Legends for sure can too!
@Vruhag Right, I'm well aware of their oops when they released it accidentally and I was more addressing my comments to people that think it's a good idea for a leaver system in this game. My comment isn't pointless because if Respawn is actually paying attention to these forums then they need to reconsider how they penalize players. I still don't think a leaver system should be implemented at all, but a player report should be.

Squads with an early leaver have a big disadvantage due to this, which makes it unfun for the staying players.
So unless they are introducing new game modes and they want to ensure that the game stays fun for most of the player base, they need to make a decision: either penalize the quitters, or just let it run down the hill. Either way what they're doing, one side will complain.
The way to go for this is an automated penalty system - and if the quitters cry, then so be it. It's by far means the smaller part of the community which would complain in the long end.
