Masters/Preds should NEVER be in a lobby with me. Fix it.

I've felt a little jaded about Apex recently for a number of reasons. Dropping on a Spitfire or Volt with only one ammo pack on it and dying 30 seconds into the match because I instantly run out of ammo. Running through multiple loot spots/opening multiple pills before finding my first weapon (because that pill had 3 white shields in it, "for hot swaps"). Octanes able to tac straight up my pooper without the slightest audio indication. The list goes on.

But today my friends wanted to play some ranked and I obliged. We ran into many of the issues stated above, but none was more offensive than the last game of the night. To clarify, we are currently silver/silver/bronze but we're all usually gold/plat. I basically finish every season I actually play in gold 1 or 2 and my lifetime KDR is about 0.5. POINT. FIVE. I have ONE 2K badge. Obviously I am not a good FPS player by any stretch. In fact I'm quite garbage, worst in my friend group by far, but I try to enjoy it nonetheless, try to relish the challenge, and maybe improve along the way. Although maybe if SBM existed my KDR wouldn't be so horrendous? But, I digress.

All of that to say, why on God's green Earth was our champion squad of the last game not one or two, but THREE Masters players?! I have NO BUSINESS being in the same lobby as these people for ANY REASON, ESPECIALLY in Ranked. I haven't even begun to even approach earning the right to play with people this good. Either tie matchmaking directly to KDR or place these people higher every season, but preferably, do both. I don't care if it's the end of the second split and that's the worst time to play Apex because all the sweats come out. Take that argument and shove it. Us mere mortals like to get kills and have fun too. It shouldn't matter when I decide to play the game, I should have a fighting chance every time I log on, otherwise what's the point? My KDR is just as bad now as it was when I started. My movement and looting looks like I know what I'm doing, but I feel like any chances of improvement are completely stifled by lobbies like this one. It's not an opportunity to learn anymore, it's just an opportunity to practice stretching out to the far corners of the map over and over to delay the seemingly inevitable death to come, which is not exactly enthralling gameplay.

This issue affects the longevity of this game we all love or try to love. Every new player coming in runs the risk from day one of getting absolutely steamrolled by Predators and Masters (or low level accounts that suspiciously aim like TSM ImperialHal somehow), because matchmaking (and anti-cheat) literally does not exist here. It's not a fun experience when you're still trying to learn and grow as a player and you get absolutely obliterated by a squad that could hold their own against people who play this game professionally. Trust me, every single person in my group, and I'm sure many others, would much rather sit in a lobby a little bit longer and have a competitive game every match than get steamrolled by a full squad of people who could each 1v3 our group without breaking a sweat for what feels like 90% of the night. Every night. For 3 years.

This all comes from a place of love for this game and the percent of its community like me who just want a fair fight. If Apex can sometimes feel borderline unplayable for someone with 1100 hours into it, just try to imagine how unapproachable it is to the actual bronze players out there? Overwatch 2, PUBG, Super People...they all look more appealing by the death.

Please do something before it's too late.

  • THEY DONT CARE ABOUT THIS. IF THEY DID IT WILL BE FIXED LAST IN THE LAST SEASON!

  • As stated, they don't seem to care about the game. One of my matches had a Season 3 pred, and overall masters player as the "champion". Why though? This is a "gold" lobby.

I suppose one could argue that not everyone can maintain pred status, and that maybe they got bad over time, but uh... they've been a Masters player for a while, so I'm assuming in Season 13, they decided to not play rank, (or the game at all) which let them unfairly drop into lower ranked lobbies. Which would mean that after Season 12, they would of been dropped down to diamond going into Season 13 due to the rank reset. Then after Season 13's split, that would of drop them down somewhere in plat, which finally when Season 14 kicked off, they would be in gold. That would explain why they're in my "gold" lobbies, although this is the end of the second split, and we literally have 4 days (since this reply was posted) left of the season, so they should be a higher rank than gold.

I decided to look a bit more into this player's ranking, and give it more brain cells and thought than was required, (which would be zero on both of those, because why waste your time, right?)

Right... I checked their stats on a stat tracker, which found the following:

    - Stat Tracker Being Used: https://apexlegendsstatus.com
    - Account Level: 559 (Apex's new leveling system), 1900 (shown via https://apex.tracker.gg, which is the stat level, not the "actual" level)
    - Current Rank: Plat III (Image above was taken about 3 hours ago around 5:30 PM CST, its now 8:52 PM CST for me, that's why they're no longer in gold)

    - Current Arena Rank: Diamond I

    - Shown Rank Badges (Since the stat page is limited by Apex's API): Season 3 - pred (the badge shown below), season 8 - masters, season 10 to 12 - masters, season 13 (Arena) - masters

I also was trying to find what rank they were last season, but as mentioned before, the API is a little limited, however using the other tracker (https://apex.tracker.gg), it seems (while not fully accurate), that the player was diamond for season 13. Season 13 is when rank was broken by Respawn, so I'm guessing that this player's "true ranking", (if we can even call it that since SBMM doesn't exist), was diamond as they couldn't reach masters again. This would set them down as a plat player for season 14 assuming they actually were a diamond player in season 13. While the stat tracker only tell part of the story, it does look like this player is just ranking up as high as they can, and then dropping down to terrorize lower lobbies.

I can't fully say for certain what this player is doing, but its what this seems to suggest they're doing:

I think this just further proves that rank and matchmaking is simply too broken in general, if a masters/pred player can effortlessly drop this low in the ranks. I get rank placement, but this isn't how ranked or matchmaking should be like.

  • @k1ngn0th1n9 Exactly how I feel, we have mentioned this here for like a year and nothing is done. They like it that way it seems and only pro players complaining about this would make them do something I think.

Stopped playing for weeks first time I don't finish the battle pass they gave us the 10 points per Kp back last split but took it away from us again... so no point in playing anymore I play 6 hours to make 30 points. Totally a waste of time.

Played many hours in the past few days because I think I will enjoy the new map for a while but seconde split being 6 weeks of an old map non stop and 1 point per Kp will get very lame in split 2 of season 15.

So no matter how good I play I end up being kill by what appears to be a smurf master player helping his lower skill friends grinding up. It's getting very lame.

Create a system where pros can't grind and tell me if they would enjoy it. Only for us.

@Palette24carats I just played a game with randoms we beat the champion squad at the start of the game they had one master season 12 and a diamond. Then we manage to get top 9 the place is crowded we get shot from behind trying to relocate outside the storm. Result : -7 points in Gold 3.

Wow why would we even play this crazy rank system I hate it.
  • I have a .62 KDR and got to 3rd and was instantly killed by a guy with a 13.0 KDR well known streamer Playing pubs.

Why is he in my lobby ????

This game will never get new people playing I've had friends try it and won't play based on this issue.

Just played my 50:th win on Mad Maggie. It took some time because I'm also around 0.5 KDR (0.62 this season  *le brags* 😉)

Anyway, what happens? Well the next match I'm paired up with a 1097 kill Catalyst with 20 bomb badge etc, and another guy with 4k badge... probably two much better players who INSTANLT leaves because they, as well as me know this is *. I of course lose any chance of getting a 2 in a row win as I am now 1 person in trios.

    Matchmaking is god awful.

And on top of it you getting into games where you're 1 or 2 players from the start after getting a win is just incredibly stupid. Punishing the winner rather than just letting them enjoy the game. "But hey, take it as a challange man...hurr durr...you're good, you're the champion...hurr durr". Not acceptable!
