Matchmaking bug?

Greetings!

Me and a couple of friends have recently picked up the game again after playing it for a very small amount of time around season 1 i believe.

So far we've only played for about 10-15 hours, are low level (10, 18, 23) and pretty much suck at the game.

We managed to win a couple of games and suddenly we're being matched against much higher level accounts who often have thousands of kills and games played.

I understand that matchmaking in games like these are difficult things to balance, and i do not mean to merely complain in case it is simply how the game works.

I'm just wondering whether this might be a glitch of sorts, since it felt like it only started happening after the most recent update.

At first i thought we were just getting some unlucky matches, but then i started to pay attention to the death recaps of each game.

These were consecutive games.

This has been happening every game for the past days, these are just from today's games.

Of course i will continue trying to get better at the game to eventually be able to take on higher level players, but i'm just wondering what might have caused this sudden huge jump in difficulty?

I am rather new to the game, and this might just be a well known function, but i could not find anything about it online.
