mic audio quality is crap compared to discord, sounding like a walky-talky

when speaking in-game, there is a significant difference in clearity.

  • Why is nobody talking about this???

On PC you are lucky if you can understand a single word your teammate says. Everyone sounds like they bought a $10 Walmart mic and just shoved it down their throat.

  • Discord is a garbage company with pretty horrible software but I can agree the voice sounds better there but it's a bit odd to compare an in-game voice chat to a standalone voice chat program. While Overwatch has similar/same sounding audio to Discord you could just compare that or another game.

It definitely needs improvement in Apex, but I'm also glad it isn't as terrible and bugged as GarrysMod voice chat is.

Agreed. I'm surprised that the only thread I could find about this issue is this one and nobody replied to it.
I have to say... it is like the worst in-game voice communication I've ever heard.

  • A whole year has passed since this thread was made, and it is still just as relevant as it was back then. The voice chat quality is absolutely horrid in this game. I literally cannot understand my teammates 80% of the time. Sometimes I cannot even make out a single word, and the voice to text feature does not help either, spitting out random gibberish.

The voice quality needs to be massively improved, because right now it's not even usable the majority of the time.

(Sorry for bumping an old thread, but figured it was better than making a new one, since the issue is still exactly the same.)

    Yup, still a major issue.

If you're worried about server bandwidth, make it peer to peer or use a 3rd party service.

If you're worried about client bandwidth, make the quality configurable.

There's really no excuse for the pitiful bitrate you're currently imposing; it just further differentiates randoms from premades, and inconveniences everyone.

This is true but it just leads out the the very poor quality netcode and servers

  • @Ethanants I agree on sound issues with mics... one player i may hear crystal clear and the next few sound like a mess and you can’t understand them I just assumed it was the quality of the mics the players were using, honestly I only play casual so theres no need for mics so I just started instantly muting my squadmates because even if you do hear them... its usually someone trolling or being toxic instead of actually helping your squad
