I'm in silver and I can tell the real Mirage from decoys. Watch the movements at least. Once you learn decoy from real, then comes the challenge of spotting fake-decoys, a skill that hasn't yet taken root because there are still many players who shoot decoys. I know that skill from Valorant: Yoru. Effectively, just hold W and hope you don't get shot. One wrong move and they'll tell you aren't a decoy. But, since half the players in Apex still shoot decoys for some reason, that skill hasn't been able to root in Apex yet. It relies on people being able to tell decoy from real and holding their fire so they don't get revealed (or in Yoru's case blinded). Since Apexers still shoot the decoy, they can't practice fake-decoying as they still get shot anyways because people still shoot the decoys anyways.
Rule 1 of spotting decoys: If they are moving in a straight line, it's probably a decoy.
Rule 2 of spotting decoys: If they run straight into fire, it's probably a decoy.
Rule 3 of spotting decoys: If they run into walls, they are probably decoys.
Rule 1 of being a fake-decoy: Run in a straight line, don't sprint, and hope you don't get shot anyways.
Rule 2 of being a fake-decoy: If you run into a wall, just hold W, don't turn. If you can't move anymore, quit pressing buttons. Hope you don't get shot.
Rule 3 of being a fake-decoy: If you get shot, the trick is up. Turn and run or open fire, but don't stay put.
Rule 4 of being a fake-decoy: If people have a tendency to shoot the decoy, don't attempt it.
As for the being revived part, what's the point of invisible revives if he's not invisible when being revived?
He's the weakest character of all imo. Plus the healthbars thing is a dead giveaway. If he's struck when casting or before casting, healthbar doesn't follow decoy and reveals the him from decoy too easily. At least Ult cast purges it for a moment, unless under auto fire in which purge is unpurged almost immediately, which is 90% of gunfights.
Thanks for that. It all made good sense and it will come in handy in the future, at least if I'm far enough away from the target (as I always prefer to be when possible.) But up close, with squadmates shooting and two other enemies and fog-of-battle and such... there's just no why to read that kind of engagement in the amount of time that's available to you. Which is "none." In the half a second it would take to suss out the real Mirage, he's already one-clipped me with an R99. Every. Single. Time.
