Gold armor is basically purple armor with just an added bonus, it doesn't make you absorb more damage, energy weapons are quite balanced as it is mainly for the fact that they charge up slow until you find a turbocharger but that is gold tier loot so you don't find that as often, learn to take the L and just play the game.
