Well, to be fair to Respawn - they didn't ban anyone for using the exploit, as far as I know. Plus, those players who did consider it an exploit, and who were offended by its use, had to be pretty patient in waiting for it to be patched out. So that's the other side of the story.
Players used 'bunny hop' healing because it gave them an advantage. But, presumably because it was not an intended part of game play, it was therefore considered an 'unfair advantage'. If the whole player base had picked up on it and used it then perhaps it would have been different. But it looks like that was not the assessment that Respawn made, and they have deemed it an exploit because it was unintended game play, and so have patched it out of the game.
The only advantages players should have is in their ability to play - and not in their ability to exploit unintended game play to gain an unfair advantage.
But, sure I acknowledge that in some games unintended game play can be something that an entire player base may do. Perhaps because in the case of 'bunny hop' healing it wasn't widely used that that was why it was patched out.
