Movement, aiming, recoil, abilities, health and shield management, maps, comms, etc. There is more to keep track of than in any other game, IMO.

Which was the also the case for all of us who started to play this game at release and now, 3.5 years later, have become at least so good that we no longer get stomped in pubs. I remember my first months of Apex. Drop Skull town or Thunder dome, fight, get smashed, learn, get better and fight some more =). I dont think there even was a SBMM at all back then and I dont remember hearing many complaining about the unforgiving matchmaking either. Seems like new players today are less patient and less willing to learn by doing than us veterans.
