Octane's Underwhelming Passive Exists To Make Up For An Underwhelming Tactical

So Octane's passive is that he regenerates 1 health every 2 seconds while not taking damage.

Using Octane's stim takes away 10 health.

This means that in order for Octane's passive (which exists to make up for the health drain of speed) to make up for the cost of using stim Octane needs to not take damage for 20 seconds. This in a way means Octane's stim has a 20 second cooldown.

So in exchange for 10 health you get to use Bangalore's passive for 6 seconds while making a wubwubwubwubwub sound and leaving a bright neon trail. And it sort of has a 20 second cooldown.

Takeaway: Octane's passive does a poor job at making up for the use of each stim (which is in and of itself kind of underwhelming for the cost) and offers no real benefit in or out of fights. Remember! It takes FIFTY SECONDS to passively regenerate a syringe worth of health.

  • @Eurlannd Kind of agree with you, If you are any familiar with Titan fall 2 franchise you would know that stim (my main in tf2) worked in almost the exact opposite way and it was useful, Instead of draining your health it would heal you and increase you speed but it has a cooldown. My suggestion is making stim in apex works just like in tf 2 and it would give you 2 HP per second for the duration of 10 seconds (20 HP in total) along with increasing speed obviously but it should have a fairly long cooldown and it should only drain your health if you use it while your full HP, This would open an area for for a new passive ability, I was thinking run and gun ability which is also from tf 2 and being completely immune to slows down when you are on stim, Someone also suggested that Octane could leave a trial behind him when he is using stim so teammates can follow it and gain a bonus speed
