[Open Discussion] So let's talk about the Iron Crown loot system.

So I've been playing Apex Legends since day one of its official release and I love the game. And I was hoping that with the Iron Crown event it would be another good step forward, just like the previous "Hunt" event, and by all means it is fun, but the hunt event had something that set it apart from the Iron Crown. And that was the Cosmetic loot system. So for those who don't know, the "hunt" made it really easy to obtain all the new cosmetics that were introduced into the game via the event. Most of the cosmetics we're purple, (save for the bangalore skin I believe), so they were $10 a piece and roughly $18 for Bangalore's. But you were able to earn a legendary gun skin for the triple take, an epic skin for bloodhound, and a rare skin for the G7 scout. And I think everyone was expecting a similar cosmetic loot system for the iron crown since the first event was so well-received, but what we got was something else entirely.

Know before I highlight my problem with this event, that I don't hate loot boxes. Loot boxes that offer a literal in-game advantage, introducing pay-to-win mechanics, are unacceptable by any standards, and while Apex Legends doesn't have this mechanic, (yet, and hopefully will remain that way), it introduces a cosmetic loot system that is simply a cash grab. Again, i love the game, but this is a problem.

So to begin, you can earn 2 "Iron Crown" apex packs for free, that's it. In each apex pack, you get crowns and One, of twenty-four Iron Crown Cosmetics. So assuming you grind, much, much harder than normal in the event to complete these missions, you'll be rewarded with 2 Iron Crown cosmetics and 60 crowns. The other 4 missions will give you an extra 60 crowns, but are just as much of a grind. Assuming you want to buy the legendary wingman skin for some of the crowns you have, just know that it costs 360 crowns, while you are, if you've completed your missions, are at 120 crowns. Now the biggest problem here is the price of the Iron Crown packs, which cost $7 a pack, giving you one item and thirty crowns per pack. To do the math for you, if you wanted to get everything or insure you get the item you want, you'd be spending $139.98 on coin purchases.

And last but not least, many players are trying to get their hands on the wraith heirloom cosmetic item pack, and those who have it, have been begging for a new heirloom. Well, its here, but you're not gonna like how you have to get it. To even be able to purchase the item, you have to have obtained all 24 cosmetics from the Iron Crown event, before you can then buy it. So to truly get everything from the event, it would cost $169.97. But if you dont get it in the event, you'll be able to get it assuredly the same way as the wraith heirloom set, either waiting for your 500th apex pack, or getting ridiculously luckly, (an understatement).

So how does the community feel about this?

  • @Raptorpunk I agree with you 100% i could buy 2-3 new games with that money. i would love to see a price drop or a different way to get them or have them added to the loot pool after the event.
  • @Raptorpunk it's garbanzo beans.

I'd rather go to the casino and spend that much if I wanted to gamble. Least there I have a chance of getting my moneys worth.
