Peace of mind for legitimate players regarding anticheat efforts
Hello. In yesterday’s report I saw that in Season 28 you’ve banned 139697 accounts, and seeing such a high number makes me worry. Let me explain why.
Aside from encountering a few players that were under Olympus map and a few players that were invisible due to short-lived Revenant’s finisher’s bug I’ve never seen any cheaters in my ~5000 hours playtime from season 8 till now. Granted, I play on console where cheating options are severely limited, but once in a while I team up with PC friends, and I can’t say I notice any difference in terms of match fairness. I fully understand that cheating situation is not uniform and my personal experience is not indicative of what everyone else is experiencing, but I can’t help but feel that there shouldn't be that many cheaters in the game and some of those bans can be false positives.
I also had in-game friend who was accusing another team of cheating every second time we were dying in a match (this is not exaggeration; he was that certain that only cheaters can beat him). I imagine he wasn’t unique in such attitude and there are quite a few players who are abusing reporting system. And I remember the story of AMD's Anti-Lag+ triggering anti-cheats in various games, so I can easily see legitimate players routinely updating their drivers and software only to get detection-triggering enhancements they aren’t even aware of.
I understand that you can’t disclose how exactly you are detecting cheaters as such secrecy is important for efficiency of the process. But this secrecy doesn’t give peace of mind to legitimate players, and I want something to be done about that. Personally, I would feel much better if I knew that before getting a ban, I would get a warning (or at least a short-lived ban instead of a permanent ban) with some information on what to do to avoid escalation.
Others may disagree, but I would rather have more cheaters in my games or having them for longer than having honest players kicked out and worrying that I may join them one day by mistake.
