Well how much different is remembering the positions of the select wheel as opposed to remembering the position of the buttons on the controller? You still need to associate the action with a motion.
The only difference is you’re using and analog stick instead of a press button. You also get more choices this way.

It's much easier/faster to muscle memory the face buttons than a specific quadrant of an analog wheel (IMO / IME).
Those buttons currently sit unused, so it wouldn't change anything for those that prefer the wheel. But would add to the game, for those that would use them.
