Ranked Game Start: Battle Bus vs. Area Drops

Just wanted to let the dev's know that I think they nailed it last season with the area drops. I understand that the Battle Bus is a genre staple, but honestly it doesn't improve the game, at least for ranked.

So last season everyone would get a zone, dropped, and have a minute to get some loot. You could rush into your neighboring zone, or be rushed by that zone, or even by two neighbors. Either way, for the purpose of ranked, this means that you have a somewhat uniform early game, which is good! You won't have a single teammate disagreeing on the drop zone, or end up in a hot drop.

it also means that generally whatever direction you go, you will encounter someone, so fights are more regular throughout the game.

With the Battle Bus, the distribution of players around the map is very uneven. Players can go to the edge and just avoid fighting, or into the thick of it and get knocked out quickly. This is a high variance style that players enjoy in normal lobbies, but for ranked you want to promote more standardized starts, so to allow player skill to determine the game's outcome.

Anyways, just wanted to put my 2 cents in. Nailed it last season, got me to get back into Apex, and now I'm wavering a little now that we have to go wherever the jump master says. So now more of my early games are watching my teammates hot drop, get downed instantly, and now I have to go rez them as my early game.

Fun fact: H1Z1 is the original Battle Royale, which only had dropzones. I have no clue what the whole map looks like in H1Z1. The aerial vehicle/plane drop method isn't really a genre staple, IMO. It's just a "feature". End zones in H1Z1 were always fun.

Playstation gamers didn't have access to PUBG until 12/7/18, and it wasn't F2P.

BR players who didn't like Fortnite played H1Z1. That's where my BR journey begin. From there we all moved to Blackout, which was lit at the time. My friends back then were more adamant to pay for COD over PUBG. Then Apex came out, and the rest is history. Personally, I still moved on and played Realm Royale, then Firestorm, which was lit. Overall, I've played almost every BR to come out.

I came back to Apex when Wattson and Ranked was introduced, the infamous Season 2.

Lastly, when researching BR origin and the first BR games it seems as if drop zones are actually the real genre staple. I'm not 100% sure though.

    Where did battle royale originate?

What is the first battle royale game?

I've been a BR fanatic since H1Z1. No other game mode compares to BR, and never will. Hopefully the devs will stick to the roots of BR and not cave to deathmatch players, BR will always be a survival genre.

I heard about the book and movie called Battle Royale. I just watched the trailer again (I seen it years ago), it's unforgiving. I'm going to watch the movie tonight.

I didn't see any aerial vehicle/plane drop methods in the trailer. I don't know how they got in the arena 🤷‍♂️, but I'm about to find out tonight!!! This is where BR started.
