- @Midnight9746 Do you mean it's too late to implement that? This feature is from a mobile game with 1/3 of average apex online players and more cheaters. I have a bit more 510h playtime in Apex and I have only faced cheaters (excluding zen/config/script/wallhack) for < 5 times, compared to facing cheaters almost every day in that mobile game. I am pretty sure it is a successful feature in that game because I see so many players using cosmetics/badges that can be obtained only from being cheater reviewers + number of cheaters significantly went down.
It just sounds like a lot of work for a small handful of players who still even play the game while there's a bunch of players using cheats these days. Many of which are using strikepacks, Xim, Cronus, etc.
It might be because around this time things get slower, or that there's not much keeping players engaged, or there's other issues like the servers and audio, or a combination of everything.
I just feel like a more automatic system would be better and having the ability to review gameplay like Overwatch, to where if we wanted to watch how someone was playing after the match, we could and then report if we needed to.
Overwatch is great because you can do that. They allow you to submit that clip and the team can easily review it.
- @Midnight9746 I mean the feature is optional, anyone who wants to do it can do it and might get in-game rewards, e.g. badges, cosmetics, crafting materials and in-game currency. I don't think it's a lot of work anyway, you can just hover over the video timeline, skip forward and backwards, and see how they shoot and move. Even in the mobile game I referred to with only 1/3 average apex online players, a lot of players participated because the rewards were so good (similar to apex coins iirc).
Referring to the Overwatch, I don't think many players will voluntarily screen-record the cheater's POV after match and send it to the team. Many players including me are already tired of reporting someone for cheating and not getting any feedback on whether or not the reported player is banned. Therefore, IMO, in-game rewards is a must to encourage players to participate.
Plus the video of the suspected cheaters must be a screen record so we can see precisely the recoil, and whether or not they are wallhacking. I am pretty sure the Overwatch post-game record is not a screen record. They are using similar techniques to COD where they only capture players' position, and device inputs at every timestep and rewind back, which results in crosshair not being accurate. A full-screen record is resource-intensive and costs more than 1GB per player. That's why only the most significant suspected cheaters' gameplay needed to be saved - ComicBookGuy27272 years agoSeasoned Ace
Someone here said it best already. It shouldn't even be up to the player base to monitor their game for hackers and cheaters. They rely on us to report cheaters...yet most of the time nothing is done. I assume the ones that get banned are the ones that don't spend money on the game.
Regardless, we are doing their work for them, as they hire more staff to work on more skins to sell us.
- @ComicBookGuy2727 It is just an additional and optional feature, just to help fight cheaters. There is no game with 0 cheaters. Even in Valorant with one of the best anti-cheat systems, there are still cheaters in their official tournament. If the number of players who help fight cheaters surpasses the number of cheaters, wouldn't it be great?
But of course, it is just minor feedback because there are soft cheats that wouldn't be so apparent, and that only pro players can notice if they are cheating or not. @Skimpp I understand what you're saying and I personally value the effort, all I'm saying is that there's so many cheaters that it would take the remaining legitimate players from the player base to look over and review.
Recently it hit the news that about 50% of the "pred players" were in a cheating Discord, either playing with cheaters or using cheats themselves, and since preds are basically in every lobby, (for some reason), its hard to say, "not everyone is cheating".
Even if the news never came to light, I still see a ton of low level accounts aimbotting, wall hacking, etc. and tons of diamonds to pred accounts cheating as well.
I've reported at least 50 players in the last week or so alone for things like cheating. About 20-30 of them were using controller cheats like strikepacks, as I saw a few move side to side while looting a deathbox, and others perfectly tracking players like they had a M&K input, some had zero recoil, and some were using movement scripts. These players had a console icon on their banner cards, so it was quite obvious that they were using 3rd party equipment.
The point I'm getting at, is there's so many cheaters and our "player reports" aren't doing much.
I hear nothing for weeks and then I'll randomly get a bunch of "we didn't take action" emails, followed by one or two "thanks for reporting!" emails. Everyone I reported was a smurf, aimbotter, wall hacker, controller cheater, (especially the ones who move side to side while in deathboxes, despite being on a console), boosting, being boosted, playing with a cheater, and even reported players with bad names, (which still seems to exist).
At this point, I'm not saying to stop making the suggestion for this type of anti-cheat, (the game really does need a better anti-cheat), so, if you have some more ideas or any refinements, I'd love to hear it because I'm tired of the cheating problem. (Not that I can do much with it anyways, but here's to hoping EA/Respawn does).
Keep in mind that a lot of cheating is done via two PCs. In other words, the main runs Apex, while the second which is connected, runs the cheats. When the game checks for cheats on the host system, it doesn't see the cheats on the second system. It only sees things like keyboards, mouses, etc. (which the second PC masks itself), to that reguard, the anti-cheat should be allowed to block a device or have some sort of ability to checkif the player has one too many things plugged in because honestly if you got two mouses or keyboards, something might be up. (That's something that needs more ideas and refinements to fight. I know very little about this method of cheating, other than its starting to become popular).
