Ranked Arena discourages play because the rules for governing AP awards and losses is totally arbitrary and governed invisibly. Coupled with a matchmaking system that doesn't match on Rank but player availability (and conceals everyone's rank anyway) Ranked Arena is not a Ranked system...it's just regular Arena all over again. It's even worse because hiding ranks doesn't work given the amount of people who stream...and when you are solo queued and you're fighting a team with a Club name you can easily see they're a full team.
Frankly Ranked Arena is unfit for the purpose it sets out right now. In Ranked BR you know that if you pop off you could get maximum point rewards and so you keep trying even if it is hard...In Ranked Arena you're awarded virtually nothing if the random matchmaking screws you over and you lose all your points for a loss that is expected when you're solo against a full squad. There's no endorphin rush for doing well in Arena's and it discourages play because of it...you get a couple of 14's and there's no real reason to play (and yes, i've had a win streak of 4 in ranked arena and got 14 every time for a win..)
It needs changes very soon
