That because you throw your ult wrong. There's no reason to gas a building if wattson's ult is there anyway. 

Plus, you can still use grenades if you throw them outwards, not inwards. 

The way you said it, Wattson ult was up. You looked at your feet and ult. That will destroy you grenade/ult because you threw it inwards and not outwards.
