Re: Why is the matchmaking so messed up?

@ejholiday97 Two or so seasons ago I got really excited when they said they were going to improve the matchmaking, then got disappointed when the "improvements" was the same matchmaking, except with a "hidden MMR". As we all know, the hidden MMR doesn't work at all.

@saurerDropsXXL Despite how much Respawn had said that ranked did have a SBMM, it never had it, it had the EOMM the whole time. If you look at all the data on who were in what match, its quite clear that there's no defined baseline for skill, so the system would often put low skilled players in with the high skilled players. In fact at one point in the rank system, players in higher ranks weren't able to get into a match, so Respawn actually made it to where gold players could que up with the higher ranked players, since they saw that a lot of previous masters players were still in the gold rank. This ended up turning into kill farming for the preds. This was back in S12 or so.

@drevinum9 S17 ranked was a participation season for sure and I'm still grinding out rank in S18 in the bronze division, but it feels like I'm in a harder lobby than a plat match. The highest rank I got before they gave out free masters was plat, and those matches got very sweaty due to being mixed in with diamond players. While instead of fixing the rank system when they saw players like Sweets hit pred with zero damage, they released cosmetic items, such as a holospray that were rat related. One was called "ratted", which you got if you watched the ALGs, and another one was called "I smell a rat", which you got from the "Threat Level" event. I don't want to hate on the devs as they do a lot of things that are great, such as the improved firing range, but things like this shows players that they know of the issues but won't fix them. Then again you got EA as the publisher, so chances are Respawn can't do what they would like to. I remember hearing about how devs wish they could make important changes, but couldn't.

@DeepBeats They need to pull a Fortnite and copy the system for dealing with users who use things like strikepacks and other controller mods, which is having no tolerance for them and actually banning players who use them. However, I do agree that even if they fix the matchmaking, its not going to get better until they solve the overall cheating and smurfing problem as well as better handle players when they go and rat.

  • @Midnight9746 OK, I should have been more precise: it's more EOMM now than it used to be. Although... I still found the S8 very good. I could imagine that there was an SBMM at least until S8, maybe a little bit after that. But yes, after S12 it got exhausting.

@Midnight9746 Just the fact you mentioned, instead of communicating during season 17 period that was 3 months, they release expensive in game content for us players to pay for when the game was not even fun or in my eyes playable in any sense. Force us to play in horrible conditions that is reported daily and discussed over multiple games with people in voice chat about the issues they NEVER address and players have told the DEVS and whatever part of the organisation reading this forum that WE HAVE A LOT OF ISSUES that they should treat as outmost important. Bad cheap servers, audio issues beyond working at this point, report system just being some symbolic button pressing that does absolute nothing and in many cases you even can't report the proper player. There as so many fundamental functions that has been ignored for too long and they instead slap our face with increased in game currency prices and new in game skin content while also not speaking to us about any of the heaping amount of feedback begging them to fix anything.

For their own sake and the players still holding up with their <removed>, I hope they will keep their promises about being more active in the communication and also keep the fixes rolling as soon as they come out. Since they extended the seasons to be 3 months instead of 1 month, that was a required change in how they work and should have been the intended way of working as soon they announced season 17

@Midnight9746 The forum is stacking up with similiar feedback issues yet again about the MMR system not working as intended, I have not tried it out as I am retired for the nearest future from this horrific treatment from their side. It does not look good that the same feedback loop has started....
