Nah, only when you get yourself knocked:
1) far from cover, like running around out in the open for no reason
OR
2) out of position from your team, like running around solo with no friendly nearby.
will your knockdown shield be useless. If you play as a team where everyone in your team is doing what they should in a fight (do damage + keep the enemy players busy), the enemies wont have the time and space to finish you off, especially if you have a blue or purple shield. I dont know how many fights Ive won only because some noob enemy is sooooo thirsty to finish you off they spend entire mags to do it instead of helping their friends 2v1 one of your remaining teammates. Can suck if they succeed but if your teammates play their cards right, your execution will help them to win the fight.
I know this is something that wont happen very often when you play with randoms, especially in casual but when you play with a full premade squad, especially in higher elo (Diamond3+ to master etc), your knockdown is not useless at all.
As someone who prefers to play defensively with Rampart with more or less compliant team mates, I don't exactly have much of a choice but to stick to my team and behind cover. But somehow people know ways to bypass your knockdown shield just fine. Potentially could be because people can be from 50 to 0 meters in 1 second and have zero issues focusing on killing you first and then dying to your team. You gain kinda something from crippling the enemy team even if you die yourself. That they likely won't be able to recover from this especially in later stages of the game. Good luck respawning someone without getting noticed with that massive ship in the sky that has a flag hanging off of it: "Free killz, plz come here"

Yeah, like I said; these scenarios when I argue that the knockdown shield is VERY valuable wont happen very often in causal with randoms. But they will happen often in ranked when playing with a 3 man premade squad which is reason enough not to remove the knockdown phase.
- Midnight97465 years agoHero+@Peri_Longbow_plz How I feel about knockdown shields is that they need their HP adjusted and protect more of the player. No matter what level shield I have, people can empty 1-2 mags and somehow cut through it like butter. It doesn't matter what gun they use either.
They're also even able to quickly run around the knocked player and hit them in the sides, back, or from above, rendering knockdowns useless.
Someone can also do a finisher, which bypasses the knockdown shield all together. If they don't want to wait the time or risk getting shot at, they can cancel the finisher and then shoot at you. Oftentimes this catches the knocked player off guard, and the finisher makes the knocked player put away their knockdown shield. This allows one to go ahead and kill the knocked player quickly without having to go around them or fight them through their knockdown.
Throwing thermite also goes past knockdown shields.
Unless you have a decent team that seems like enough of a threat to focus on, people should leave you alone and give you time to crawl away. This also requires 3rd parties to not exist or the 3rd party becomes the distraction for your team. Oftentimes, there could be 2-5 teams shooting, and for whatever reason 1-3 players of each team would focus on finishing you off mid-gunfight. It just makes no real sense.- D3loFF5 years agoRising Veteran@Midnight9746 You are correct. I think knockdown shields should be reworked to be lets say like a full bubble in order to be effective these days.

I think that would be an interesting idea for the legendary knockdown shield . I think we all can agree that of all legendary items, the knockdown shield is the worst. After 10k matches, I could almost count on my fingers how many times Ive actually got a self res through and managed to do something meaningful afterwards. So many things out of your control must happen if you will have any success with it, like the enemy team getting third partied or something like that. Reworking it by removing the self res but making it a bubble that shields you from all directions until the HP is broken might sound too OP but I dont think it would be. Your team must still win the fight in order for it to be useful. But imo, I dont think all knockdown shields should work this way for the reasons I mentioned in my earlier posts.
- 5 years ago@Peri_Longbow_plz As someone who spends a lot of time with their knockdown shield and being rezzed by teammates, I rarely see what you're describing. Are you pinging the enemy that is thirsting you?
As long as you're reasonably close to your team, the knockdown shields keep you alive enough to be rezzed or even to shield your teammates. Of course, you should ideally have some cover and know how to turn.
If you're talking about surviving 3 players all going against your shield, that's obviously not going to happen and it shouldn't. Also, if you're isolated away from your team or wide out in the open, it's pretty much to be expected you'll be killed. In fact, you can easily have a finisher performed on you, which ignores knockdown shields anyway.- 5 years ago@LaughingSharko The most usual outcome of almost any casual game I have: We stick together, we fight, I or someone else go down. I see a frag grenade coming in, turn around to block the explosion, allies of course try to take cover and well, then I'm toast because it's either being shot in the back or receiving 100 damage from Ariana grenade.
Besides, you can bypass the knockdown shield very easily. You can hit people by shooting the edges of the knockdown shield. For some reason the actual size of the shield isn't as displayed.
