Respawn please add an axial dead zone and remove the response curve dead zone
This is something i've been wanting to ask to be added and changed in the game sense season 1 but didn't really know how to ask. Considering last update only fixed loba I thought I would share some update ideas and hopeful they get noticed and added to apex legends.
Ihad to type and this out using my phone so please excuse any errors. Also before people try to shatter my heart into a million peices by leaving comments like get gud or k . Please consider keeping comments to yes or no i don't agree and heres why. Anyway...
These setting changes should address issues or somewhat allievate some issuse fps games are facing especially what with apex legend attempting to become crossplay. So any help in getting this post noticed by respawn would be apreciated.
Respawns advanced sensitivity setting are amazingly well done, and sets a grade A+ standard when it comes the first person games, most don't even have seprate x and y sensitivity settings. But titan fall and apex legends setting options are nearly perfect in my opinion but with two quality of life changes it would be even better.
No. 1 An axial dead zone would help the thumb stick stay turning on its x and y axises helping prevent accidental stray up and down stick input when trying to look left and right, and vice versa. Note I mean stray input from the player and NOT the weapons recoil pattern such as the flatlines hortizontal left and right recoil. The axial dead zone wouldn't stop or prevent stick input across the x and y axises just confine then to the axises. Also the menu curser seems to have the same effect so im also curious as to why this option wasn't available to begin with, then again could have just imagined it.
This is a god send for old and original console controllers that suffer from stick drift, and are just out classed by pro controller and mouse and keyboard. as the normal regular dead zone decreases a players range of stick movements making tiny fine aim adjustments very difficult.
Where as the axial dead zone would not need to be as large to achieve the same stabilizing effect on stick drift especially when it can only move in 4 directions. How ever you would need to add two sliders along with this, one to adjust the width of the dead zones out ward from the x and y axises and another to adjust the amount of outward stick input from the x and y axises required to leave the dead zone for this I would highly recommend using a percentage value and not a slider and have the increments change by 1% value instead of 2% or 5% percent value like you did with the per opitic slider. Though the second option should come with a toggle option as some people might perfer there stick input to never leave the axial dead zones. Would also achieve the classic input feeling without using a dead zone the size of texas.
No.2 Remove the dead zone increase from the response curse slider. This would allow players using the advanced settings to use response curve setting are not possible in the advanced settings like high velocity and fine aim. Not only is the dead zone on this slider not needed it is obsolete considering there is already a separate dead zone slider. And even then a regular dead should not be used if there is no need for it so keeping the regular dead zone as small as possible without sacrificing accuracy is essential to getting the greatest range of input and accuracy out of a controller without stick drift making you want to tear your hair out.
From my understanding the point of the response curve is or was to give console players more control over the rate at which they control or adjusted aim giving them greater range of control or accuracy but without the need to lower their sensitivity. By allowing controller players to artificially increasing the sticks range of input by using a non linear input ratio. Instead of a 1 to 1 ratio . A dead zone is detrimental to this because it decreases the amount of room your joystick has to controll your inputs, so it helps prevent stick drift but the cost of decreasing accuracy. when the sole purpose of the response curve is to increase controller input accuracy, even when a dead zone is aplied. So...
Why?
Why does response curve increase your dead zone?
Now to be fair i don't know how or why the response curve increases your dead zone but if it works how I think it works, making the respose curse effect on stick input approach zero but never actually zero should eliminate or drasticly reduce stick drift and need for a dead zone because the accidental recorded stick input values should be small enough to drasticlly reduce or eliminate stick drift that would have occurred while plating without a dead zone. while not scarificing player input control and allowing the player to reduce the size of their dead zone or completely eliminate it when the response curve with a removed dead zone combined with an axial dead zone which does not prevent stick movement but confines it to its axises will allow console player with standard controller a greater range of accuracy and level the playing field.
Especially because console controllers have very limited maxium input value range, and lowering this even further by adding a big dead zone the size of texas is detrimental to players using standard contollers by lower their response time and the degree of accuracy to which they can adjust their stick input in the middle of a gun fight. which is a very large chunk of the console player base.
Those who don't or can't pay to win, using a $ 200 controller to fix or negate issues like these in fps video games are a huge disadvantage especially incases where stick drift would still occur even when players have the same setting and no way to get around the issue. Yes I am aware there are cheapers ones too but the point of this is not the peripherals but to help eliminate issues like stick drift and helping improve the quality of life the game has to offer. Especially when small relately simple discrepencies cause players to cheat or feel the need pay more money to get ahead in a game where the point is to chill out and have fun for a few hours. As opposed to playing ranked having a select few people who consistantly dominate the playing field because they can afford to get or have some unfair advantage. I also guess you could argue the standard player wouldn't even bother to use the advanced setting but that is not the point.
Standard controllers when compaired to a mouse and keyboard, which in theory has infinte input value and is only limited by the size of its mouse pad, which allows for far faster reaction time and accuracy. Which is notorious for chewing and spitting out console players who are not capable of competing against them without some form of aim assist which pc player find annoying or the ability to slow or speed up the range of input values as needed in the middle of gun fights, which is why the razor pro contollers are abused used in ranked atleast on xbox as far I know, because of their agile and focus mode setting you can use on their paddles. (which is a macro in my opinion and is cheating... thanks microsoft ).
So hopefully someone is willing to hear me out so these changes can be added to the game. And a future thanks in advance, though my brain is telling me nothing is likely to come of this post.
