Returning player, strange matchmaking

I remember this being an issue.

I came back about a month before the new season, because I decide to give this game a try again after putting it down a couple years ago. I'd never given ranked a serious go despite putting hundreds of hours into the game, though i had always been into competitive shooters.

I'm not new to shooters, hitting high ranks is something I generally aspire to in any shooter I play.

Recently seeing how easy it was to hit Celestial in Rivals, I decided it was time to try and give Apex on last hurrah before whatever comes next from respawn.

I noticed very blatantly the quality of team mates i had from having been absent for years, which rapidly changed as I played a few more games and stabilized more slowly over a few weeks.

Eventually I hit a point where I was consistently getting quality team mates who were clearly also lvl900+ like I am, even when we got 1 clipped it was a fun game because at least we tried. So I know the system CAN work.

I remember the moment CLEARLY a week ago, where all of this changed.

I was playing ranked, breezed through silver and gold with several wins, came screaming into plat 4 with a 500rp match, and was consistently having fun with Apex for the first time really EVER.

The combination of good team mates and gameplay changes had me convinced this might become my main shooter again, which is not what my original plan was coming back.

Then immediately after that game, I was champion, I selected Octane, and some young teenager immediately started screaming at me for choosing octane.

He ran around shooting the air all match, and then ran away so he could craft us just to do it again.

EVER SINCE THAT MATCH, all I get are the worst quality team mates. Screaming farting burping with loud rap music, telling me to K*** myself, uninstall the game, spamming friend and lobby requests post game, instantly diving into 12 squads with 1 gun and 2 magazines. whatever. Just the worst hell I can possibly imagine. A COMPLETE departure from the experience I consistently had for a month prior, or the best one yet, getting put in silver/gold lobby without a full team, while being plat 3, with a silver team mate. Ive attached an image of that match.

I'm kind of out of ideas at this point, the game is punishing me for someone elses behavior and nothing I have tried will change that

I've tried everything I can to try and sweat my way back to the matchmaking I had before.

  • Ive played this game since the very start of the release on xbox and took a break just after ballistic was added. I am now on pc since season 16.

I thought id come back for a bit and try the game out, its sad to say but this game has completely gone down in quality, the teamates i get dont do anything and at that point its almost more worth to no fill so i get more loot.

when i play pubs all i get are level 100's with no skill and the enemy teams are 3 stack preds with 4k's, i get its apart of the game to play with friends and such but this has been a forever issue and i think the creators may care but the people with the actual money dont, at this point i believe you just have to quit the game because its not going anywhere good and wont get better.

I can say from 20ish seasons playing this game the creators dont care about matchmaking as theyve so displayed over the years the games been out and never changed.

    You're not alone dude.

  • I have to say that your honeymoon period with good and balanced teammates was the exception in this game and not the rule. The solo queue experience in Apex is almost always one very experienced player, one who has a thousand matches and who thinks that makes him experienced, and a third who just started playing a week ago and who will follow the second to any center of map hot drop like a puppy. And you will feel subjectively that you are playing against platinum/diamond three stacks.

In the game's defense, I'm finding this season's matchmaking to be far better than it has ever been before, in this game or any other. I still have wide disparities on my own squad, but the skill curve in the lobby is showing very consistent tight matches, and that promise is reflected in the gameplay experience. It's still rough on my less-experienced squadmates, but I no longer feel like every single match has a foregone conclusion that involves instantaneous deletion from a master level three stack.

So take the good with the bad. And don't try ranks without a stack. There just isn't any point.
