There is no SBMM in this game. When I joined a ranked match today, the champion squad's Pathfinder greeted me with a 20-kill and 4k damage badge. I thought, "Well, that's just great." I'm in Bronze rank – I'm not entirely sure if it's Bronze IV, but I think it doesn't matter at this point. If there were SBMM, this wouldn't happen. If there were functioning SBMM, everyone's KD ratio would converge toward 1. If someone has a KD of 4-5 or even higher, they are simply not playing in the appropriate lobby. Look at the ALGS – no one deals 4000 damage, not even 2000, and we won't even mention 10-20 kills. Why? Because everyone there is of the same or roughly the same skill level.
The fact that I, in Bronze rank, have to compete against Diamond or higher-level players in ranked is quite discouraging. I have no chance, and that is already determined the moment I jump from the dropship. Don't expect me to spend money on this, but at this rate, I think I won’t even waste my time on this thing anymore...
Considering what is happening in the PC lobby and how drastically the player base is decreasing, we will probably never see a MM that would satisfy us again.
I wonder if the only sensible solution will soon be to combine the PC lobby with consoles. Of course, this will require either strengthening MnK or weakening the controller. Either way, I have little faith that the PC player base will ever recover, but I'd like to be wrong.
Although this seems unlikely considering two things - console players can turn off cross-play at any time, and after such a change, most people would probably do it (if the option was still available). Additionally, looking at the PC player base and the console player base, it seems simple that Respawn will be more interested in console players, because they have the highest profits there (a much larger player base that they have to take care of).
Considering the above, it seems to me that we are slowly witnessing the end of the MnK era for weaker and average players. Such people (including me) are fed up with being stuck in a lobby that does not suit their skills at all.

I see this more as profit-driven than as an inevitable consequence of a game's decline. It's a fact that streaming still attracts a lot of players, and kills are essential for that. Therefore, the matchmaking essentially throws average players into the grinder so that top-tier streamers can deliver watchable performances. Even during peak hours, 125,000 people still play the game, and that's just from the Steam Chart, so this doesn't include console players or those playing via EA/Origin. There are games that could never, and still cannot, boast such a large player base, and here we are talking about decline? I believe this whole thing is intentional and solely aimed at allowing streamers to showcase how great this game is. Of course, it's also obvious that the average player will never play at that level.
Additionally, I'd like to point out that this is also the primary reason for toxic behavior. Many people find it hard to process unjust treatment, and this applies to games as well.

Matchmaking is now taking much more time on console, because of the decreasing player base.
