@Karsot wrote:I don't understand the mentality of the people complaining about skill gap in this game. Did any of you expect to jump into a competitive fps that is not the typical genre that you play and win? I have been playing fps games for more than 20 years and when i started this game i had absolutely 0 expectations in terms of how many kills or victories i would get.
I had to play more than 30 matches to get my first victory. I got my first kill on match 5.
This is a BR game, stop trying to make it paly like OW. If you do not like how a BR game plays, you are free to go back to OW. But first be patient and willing to learn how to play the game the way it is supposed to be played. Learn the map call outs. Learn the map loot locations (areas that have high quality loot, areas that have mid quality loot etc.). Expect areas that have high quality loot to be full of players and most definitely attract both noobs and expert players. It would be better if you are a noob to go to a mid quality loot area and keep moving constantly. Do not spend 10 minutes in one area looting. Finally do not expect to win. If you happen to win it's just an extra. Not even the top pros win every game. If you want to improve your fighting chances then simply practice more. Jump into more games learn to play different characters so you know what are their strong points and what are their weaknesses.
Even pro players aim at a high quantity of games to get more wins. Learn from them and adapt.
Having a skill based system will most definitely guarantee you even less wins than now. The opportunity to run a new account and pubstomp noobs to fodder stats is just too great to pass for any seasoned player.
im sure this game will be very fun when all people frustrated by current lack of fair matchmaking system leave and 10 people left cant find any games...people play to have fun and winning is fun. losing is not, especially when you are left with feeling that you cant do anything about it. and not everyone has the free time to be a tryhard twitchtard, average gamer is a 35yo working white male.
Then by all means do leave. The game has 25M players. We are not going to be without players. If you cannot invest time to learn the game then play the game the way it is and up to your abilities. I am 33 work full time and have a family but even i have time to play at least 2 hours a day. I am not great but i have done my research and i practice. Every day i get a little bit better.
I do not expect to win. Like i said, people expect to win every match. This is not how BR games work. You will lose the majority of your games and maybe just maybe win some games.
Also sorry to dissapoint you OW kids but no BR game out there has a skill based matchmaking and this is not going to be the one that attempts it. Better pick GOATS and have fun in OW.
You keep saying you are pitted against the best of the best. First of all there are few best of the best people. Then there are people that have been palying BR games since BR was a thing, those people will stomp you and everyone else all day long. Why? They have put the time and the work to learn how to play this type of game. For the last time this is not OW. You do not have to engage in every fight and you do not have to shoot at every opponent you see. Pick your fights and the fights locations so you have the upper hand. Use cover, bait the opponents use grenades and your abilities. Most importantly never engadge alone in a fight.

@Karsot Yeah, cool story bro. You said it's a competitive game first. Do you know ANY kind of competitive game where complete beginners and champions and all the raffle in the middle are thrown into the same pool of players? Any? Why do we have different divisions in every single sport? Just have everyone play against everyone, some middle school football team against the patriots and some 40 year old dads who only do it in their free time against the Eagles, git gud scrubs lol. I'm sure they'll get better by getting completely destroyed with no chance of any tactics they might have to actually work because of the sheer difference in skill.
You can use cover and pick your fights as much as you want, at some point the ring is tiny, there's barely any cover left and then the team of people who have played shooters since Unreal came out and killed half the server by themselves and got all the loot will go in raw with no lube against the team that picked their fights, that's fact. And you think that's okay because "it's BR, you're not gonna win every game lol". And everyone knows there's nothing better for improving your skill in a SHOOTING GAME than dying in 2 seconds and barely being able to shoot in any given round. If in an hour of playing you have 30 seconds of shooting, how much better do you expect to become at shooting?
The way it is now, the average player will win no games at all unless he has luck with the other players in the round not including someone with ridiculous K/D. Which is almost never. I could start counting how often "introducing your champion" doesn't have a team of people with more kills than my team combined. There won't be much to count. And even if it is a team with no such person, you don't know who the champion was teamed up with last game if they're not a full squad. You have a better chance of winning by playing alone and hoping you get a random who is ridiculously good in your team than by trying to get better, and how long do you think those normal players will want to try and improve if it never bares fruit? Another few weeks? How many of the 25M players will be left do you think? How many have already left?

This is a game not a sport. All BR games are competitive and do not have divisions.
PUBG has a rating system that is not skill based MM either. Just approximation to the rating of the current squad leader. In other words, a noob can be appointed leader of a squad and you will be fighting against noobs even if you are Shroud.
Moving on now. If you die in 2 seconds then you are obviously doing something wrong. Check were you land, learn to hear what is going on around you and learn the areas that offer better quality loot as well as flank areas. On top of that maybe learn how shoot in the practice range ,since we have one and you can practice at different ranges will all weapons, with both static and moving targets. People that have been playing FPS games and BR games longer than you will beat you up always, until you get on their level.
People that have better degrees than you get a better paying job than you and drive a more expensive car than you. This is how everything in life works. Get better and you can beat them.
Also let's assume that they indeed implement that. The top palyers will have to wait for a very long time to get into a match. The low skill players will also have to wait a long time and the only players that will be able to find matches fast are the mediocre players. Why? Because bell curve and math.
On top of that what about trolls and throwers? Let's assume we found a solution for all of the above problems. This is a team game if we put together players we expect them to work together. Now if your team is bad it was 0 effect on you. You just queue up for next game and hope to do better. If you get trolls thought and we implement your moronic suggestions and you lose you will lose rating. Eventually you might drop division or even get trapped at the lowest ranks where people will 100% troll.
Now do you get why this is not going to be implemented in a BR game?

@Karsot
1)"Queues will be too long" -> BS. 25 million players there will ALWAYS be people to play against regardless of your rank. That's like saying bronze players and challenger players in LoL have ridiculously long queues and fight always against the same people. False.
2)"smurfing issue" is a non argument as well. Look at F2P games such as LoL. Smurfing is a thing yes but it's FAR from being a significant issue. After a couple of rounds, his "rank" will push him to play against people of his similar skill lvl so even if he's lvl 5, if he plays like shroud, he will be put against players as good as him.
3)
One minute you say it's a game, not a sport and then later compare the game to IRL, jobs and salary. Your arguments make no sense and sometimes even go against one another. People that play games casually will not want to play against sweaty nolifers or 12h/day streamers. It's not a sport, competition nor a job for them, they simply want a fair and balanced game.
4)Trolls and throwers will happen regardless of if there's a ranking/matchmaking system or not. If you get a troll you can simply leave the game and start a new one.
5)Being stuck in "ELO" hell isn't a thing, it's an excuse. You also can always play with (good) friends and win rounds after rounds if you are "stuck" in a skill tier so low that it's only trolls and throwers. News flash, it won't be a thing.
P.S.: If you want to be taken seriously and not as a joke/troll, stop being so immature that you call people that disagree with you "OW kids". It makes you lose all the credibility you had to begin with even though it was already quite low.

Clearly you have not done your research like you claim then. PUBG actually in fact has skill based matchmaking. And in fact, Fortnite was getting it but then all the twitch streamers cried that their games were going to be getting harder so Epic Games held off on the idea. As far as we know it is actually still coming. They are just re thinking how they go about it before it finally drops.
Time to do that research you say you have done.- 7 years ago

As far as we know it is actually still coming. That is really the only reason I can think of why ANYONE would be against skillbased matchups. Wanting to get easy kills because you're already good and don't want a challenge. Here we've got someone trying to diss Overwatch "kids" but those kids at least have the balls of wanting a challenge when playing.

Time to re-do your research bud. In pubg you are put into lobbies that are closer to the PARTY LEADERS RATING. That is not skill based rating. In other words if i am a seasoned player and give lead of my squad to a noob i will be placed in a server full of noobs. Such a great system huh? Fortnite is not getting skilled matchmaking ever. This game is not getting one either. You can cry all you want in here all day, but it ain't going to happen and if it does it will be super easy to be farmed by pros since it's a F2P game. People will just create a second account and farm noobs all day.
If all of you OW kids put half the time you put crying in forums to practicing you would be able to get wins non stop ez.

Just shh.
Any proper match making system will flag a account that goes 15 kills in an game of noob lobby. And in the second match he does that it will "promote" said player.
If someone have enough time and is pathetic enough to make a new account every 20 minutes well i feel sorry for him.
Or you know, they could learn to play and play with people that have as much time as them. And that's coming from a lvl 81.
I don't want to squash noobs. I want to play in matches where i need to try and be matched with teammates that can play.

@Karsot So you completely ignored my original post and go with fallacious "arguments". Putting a "bronze" lvl player against a top tier no lifer twitch streamer isn't fun in any way (beside maybe to inflate the no-lifer's ego or to make "funny compilations" on YT) and doesn't allow the "bronze" lvl player to adapt or to better him/herself. To take somebody else's comparison, it's exactly like giving a university calculus math class to a kid that just learned to add and multiply expecting him to learn. Flash news: he won't. You learn in increments. Just remember how you are taught in school/college/uni.
You also use a strawman that we supposedly all want free wins. You most definitly didn't think long before posting that garbage because, actually, that argument would go to the nolifers not wanting matchmaking, not the people that want to be paired with/against people of similar/equal skill lvl. the former would want to keep the matches easymode for him while the latter want a fair, engaging and exciting match.
The rest of your post is useless when you have a whole squads of randoms that, together, have on average 20 hours of experience with the game or so pitted against premades of twitch streamers that play more than that in 2 days.
You bring absolutely no counter argument.
