Some observations I made when looking at why people don't want to play apex

So, I’m quite a lot on the internet, and people voice their opinions quite frequently. However, one has stood out to me that I seem to also notice amongst my own friends.

It came from people discussing the upcoming deadlock game, which is reviewed quite negatively and a frequent comment that pops up is:

“I don’t like the game, because it is super-fast paced and requires hyper reaction when aiming, just like apex legends.”

And it’s true, my friends also say they don’t want to play apex legends because of the strafing and jumping making aiming and gunplay extremely twitchy.

Naturally older people have problems with this because their reaction times and visual to input speed is slower.

And from my personal experience, nothing is more frustrating than seeing some Octane jump around constantly changing directions, or strafing so fast that you can’t even hit them, abusing their tiny hitboxes.

I want this changed because I think it’s a problem and people who consider apex legends don’t want to play it because it scares them off. And, because I see this problem only expanding. Hyper movement mixed with gunplay should be more seriously addressed.

What am I suggesting?

-Reduce the aiming down sights speed on all guns to 50% slow.

To reduce strafing around while aiming, allowing players to dodge shots with ease while still being able to fire.

-Change the slowing from getting hit to a 50% slow for 1 second.

To reduce the amount of weird jump and speed boost abuse people to in order to literally dodge bullets.

-Remove the ability to change directions while mid-air.

This is to reduce people strafing around mid-air and constantly changing directions, while I am not able to recreate is, I have seen it used against me quite a few times particularly by Octanes. It’s horrific to play against and a clear example of movement abuse.

-Set the slide-jump speed to the same speed as the speed the character had before the slide.

Another strange effect in apex is that slide jumping is faster than running, this is extremely unrealistic and is often an enabler for movement exploiting.

-Remove slide-boosting when climbing up objects.

There is an exploit where if you immediately slide when climbing up something, you boost to sprint speed, this is because climbing is extremely fast, and you don’t lose this momentum if you immediately slide. This can be exploited with rampart walls for example.

This can’t be done on controllers, making it an unfair PC advantage, but that goes for most movement exploits, I’m not sure if you can strafe mid-air for example on console.

-Remove the great speed that comes from jumping off ziplines.

Jumping from ziplines also causes a great boost, making the game hectic as well, particularly in area’s where there are a few vertical ziplines, often causing a goose chase trying to catch someone using them to jump up and down endlessly.

Please address these issues developers, because it scares away new players. People don’t want to play against players that strafe around mid-air at high speeds over your head or boost around with zipline jumping. It isn’t fun and it should be reduced.

    @KrakaDrakAye.

Although, I feel the ADS speed penalty would mostly affect those who don't know how to do movement exploits. Those who do would still be rocketting across the map would still be able to do as they usually do, because of the other movement exploits that allow them to bypass ADS penalty.

Valorant Slow. You know why people hate that right? It's unrealistic. Military and police aren't slowed that much by gunfire. At least when it hits them in their armor.
But, bullet knockback could be a thing. Hit a person with a certain cal round, they get pushed in the direction the bullet was going. Knockdown maybe as well, although I doubt Apex would ever do that. Snipers would have major knockback, automatics minimal. Etc.
Unaffected by ally bullets, that way they aren't boosting allies with their own bullets, or conversely screwing with them by knocking them into the firewall.
Sniper would have about punch potency, automatics would have negligible.

Remove the ability to alter directions midair: Aka kill their movement inputs while airborne, except for a jetpacking valkyrie.

They did remove the slide-jump boost before, but had to revert because of complaint overload. So unfortunately, that'll never be changed.

I can't replicate that climbing slide boost thing. I think it should be a bannable exploit if the common user can't do it.

Zipline launching was removed before, but again, major complaints, they had to re-add it. It's never leaving. Also that particular one I don't want to leave. I've been practising it and it helps against cheaters. So long as you don't accidentally send yourself flying far away from the zipline, as I often do because of the launch speed.
Actually, that makes me think the launch speed was designed to keep people from spamming ziplines.

@KrakaDrak I heard that the aiming problem, at least on console cheaters, is because of a third party device called Chronus, that isn't being detected by anti cheat, and pretty much does the aiming for the user, not only that but also automatically resetting on each shot, countering recoil.
Honestly, that's more powerful than some scripts, and you see those scripts getting banned, so why aren't chronus users getting banned?

I just did a search for if anyone banned chronus from being used, and it turns out Call of Duty banned it from being used on their games.

@Zulkiersvery good points, its especially problematic when it isn't a particularly interesting mechanic but causes significant frustration

    such as zipline jumping
mid air strafing is just illogical and reality bending
and climb boosting is also unfair because console players can't do it as easily, but pc players simply have to immediately press crouch after climbing on something

@Zulkiers: "Military and police aren't slowed that much by gunfire. "

What do you mean by they aren't slowed that much? If they get hit with a round in the chest, the armor may stop the round from penetrating, but they still get knocked to the ground. A 45 can feel like a sledge hammer to the chest.

I will say I understand tactical advantages overall, but Octane's speed breaks the very core concept of any shooter. It's like in Halo, one team can sprint and the other cannot. This one feature is the most dramatic counter measure to what is simply the most generic means of attack - the gun.

Knockback/knockdown and slow are two totally different things. I did mention knockback in that same post.
A bullet in the shoulder doesn't slow them for 5 seconds. Just a little stun / knockback. A slow is illogical. A knockback might be. There IS a difference.
In valorant, you hardly get grazed and you are practically immobilized, giving the enemy a free kill. I don't want that in Apex. A knockback perhaps, but not a slow.
